Joey's CD Player
What the hell is in Joey's CD player?
Hello. I'm sure I will get flak from my CD Player selections lately, but don't be so quick to judge. I was once like you. The pick collector is usually ready to buy the next Megadeth album, or content to sit at home to listen to their extensive collection of Stevie Ray Vaughn bootlegs. There is nothing wrong with either of these musical selections. Or any other ones you love. BUT... there is a whole world out there that you don't know about and that is why I write this. I like all kinds of music. REALLY. I like everything from swing to hip-hop to rock to jazz to classical to house to indie to metal. I just ask that it is GOOD. So please don't call me a music snob when I try to turn you on to new indie artists or the next hip-hop craze or the music I love. I just want to spread the word about great music--JOEY
Gram Parsons-GP/Grevious Angel
I don't know what I can say about Gram. I just discovered him and I am amazed. He was a member of the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Bros. But his 2 solo albums knocked me down. I did'nt know anyone could write songs so good. His vocals with Emmylou Harris are angelic. All I can say is buy this record. You get both of his solo records on one CD. He only made 2 before he died in 1974. And they are cheap for a 2 on 1. About $9. Trust me. You'll thank me later--JOEY
Guided By Voices-Mag Earwig!
Another amazing album by GBV. These guys are just the SH**!! The best indie album of its year and the best band I've worked with this year. Just a note--These guys showed up at my venue and unloaded their own equipment, set it up and played. You'd have to put a gun to a guy like Sting to get him to push an amp 5 inches. GBV are totally self contained and sold a buttload of tickets. Love this band--JOEY
The Apples In Stereo-The Discovery Of A World Inside The Moone
The Apples In Stereo call back to my youth. Imagine the yonder world of Sid And Marty Croft. This album could have been the soundtrack for H. R. PuffNstuff or Sigmund The Sea Monster. Its 70's kitsh with a 90's indie feel and production value. Fun stuff for people my age. That would be 30ish--JOEY
Clutch-Pure Rock Fury
I just don't understand why Clutch isn't the biggest heavy rock band in the world. The mind just boggles at how they are better players and writers than most of the crap on Ozzfest. Even the "Mighty Metallica" must bow down and kiss the members of Clutch's feet. It just sucks. But, if you buy their new album, it might help a little.
