HOW TO JOIN A CLUB

The Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, Inc.

HOW TO JOIN A CLUB

1.         Contact the Federation Office at     410-296-6961      or     fgcofmd@aol.com

2.         Give your name, address, phone number and E-mail address so the Federation Secretary can relay the information to the current Membership Chairman.   Also state if you are interested in a club that meets in the daytime or an evening.

3.         Our Garden Clubs are located within Districts determined by location.   District I is the Eastern Shore-Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worchester Counties.   District II is Southern Maryland-Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s Counties.   District III -Baltimore and Harford Counties.   District IV -Baltimore City.   District V is Western Maryland-Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Howard, Montgomery and Washington Counties.

4.         The individual Club Bylaws determine their membership quota as well as meeting schedules and site.   Those that meet in public facilities are less limited.   Our State Membership Chairman will check clubs for club membership requirements, according to their Club Bylaws, and then contact you.

5.         Club size can be as small as twelve members or as large as a hundred or more.   This is determined by the individual Club Bylaws.   Several clubs meet in the evening because of working members but most schedule daytime meetings.   Yes, men do belong to garden clubs, too.

6.         Would you be willing to start a garden club within your neighborhood, retirement community, at your local library or even at your Senior Center?   This is a wonderful way to share an interest in gardening, floral design, conservation and landscape design with others and develop friendships.   If so, try to arrange for ten to twelve interested persons and then the State Membership Chairman and several Board Members will meet with the group to explain the simple steps for forming a garden club.   We have members that are most helpful by providing programs for newly formed clubs.

7.         It is an opportunity to belong to a volunteer group of over 4100 members in Maryland helping to beautify local communities, work with youth, protect the environment, and stimulate our minds by courses on floral design, horticulture and landscaping.   Join us!
