IMAGES OF THE MOON

Below are links to a series of photographs of the January 20th-21st 2000 Moon Total Eclipse. They were taken at Prime Focus. This method connects my 35mm SLR camera to the scope using adapters. It basically makes the camera a huge telephoto lens because the camera is looking directly through the scope. Following the eclipse sequence is one Full Moon image and two Eyepiece Projection shots of a 1/4 and a 1/2 moon. By Eyepiece Projection there is an adapter that allows a magnifying eyepiece to be between the camera and the scope. This allows for closeup images.

The eclipse sequence has a time duration between shots of about five minutes. They start with a small percentage of the Earths shadow covering a small portion of the moon and progress to totality. At the start the temperature was twenty degrees Fahrenheit and dropped to twelve at totality. The atmosphere developed a slight haze nearing completion much to my dismay causing the final images to be less clear. The reason you see the entire moon during totality is, reflected sunlight from the Earth is illuminating the Moon.
