(New) Walters Cultural Arts Center submissions for 2009 - OR
Deadline: July 31, 08. Call to professional and emerging artists working in all media for 2009 exhibition consideration by the Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center Gallery in Hillsboro, OR. The Arts Center is currently seeking submissions from individual artists and proposals from groups of artists working in all media, to exhibit in the Center’s galleries for the 2009 calendar year. Typically the Center hosts groups of professional and emerging professional artists for four to six weeks per exhibition in the main gallery. Applications must be postmarked no later than September 15, 2008. The Franz and Virginia Bader Fund invites visual artists (excluding filmmakers, video artists, and performance artists) to apply for grants to enable recipients to develop their talent and concentrate on their art. Artists must be 40 years or older, and must live within 150 miles of Washington, D.C. Three grants totaling $50,000 were awarded in 2007. Deadline to Sign on to Team: August 1, 08. The School & Community Reuse Action Project (SCRAP) will hold it’s annual FUNdraiser – Iron Artist Competition – The weekend of 9/12-14. This high-energy celebration of creative reuse is a large-scale sculpt-off competition involving teams of local artists, rowdy referees, celebrity judges, live music, kid’s activities, merriment and mayhem. Teams have three hours to complete a sculpture using only the materials and theme provided. Sign Up to be a team at Iron Artist, teams have 10 people each and space is filling quickly. First come, first signed up! Each team will have 3 hours to create their sculpture. The event is timed and monitored by a gang of wacky referees who will give demerits to teams who violate any of the rules. Interplay Sculpture Competition - MD
Deadline: September 2, 08. The University of Maryland Public Art Project announces a national competition called INTERPLAY. Interplay blends several objectives: to create a dynamic environment for public and social engagement, to serve as a contemplative place for individuals to experience contemporary art, and to embrace the scholarly spirit of a distinguished institution of higher education and research. Requests for Qualifications are invited from experienced artists or artist/design teams, to develop a site-specific public artwork/s for the University of Maryland. • The work will be part of the renovation of a courtyard in proximity to the university’s visual art and humanities buildings. The City of Fort Myers announces a national call to artists for a $100,000 public art commission for Centennial Park, located in the city's newly redeveloped downtown River District. Centennial Park hosts a number of festivals, events and concerts annually. Therefore, the artwork must be durable, low maintenance and appropriate to the site. Artists should take into consideration the site's proximity to the water, the tropical climate and the high degree of urban exposure. Several sites within the park are currently under consideration. Public Art Opportunity - CA

The Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, in conjunction with Sacramento County, invites artists to submit qualifications for potential inclusion in a pre-qualified artist database for upcoming public art opportunities at the Sacramento International Airport. This project, with a budget of $5 million, is the largest public art project in the history of the County. A number of selection panels will be established to review applications for the purpose of establishing a pool of qualified artists working in a variety of media. Night Visions III - AZ

The work in this exhibit should reflect the deep, positive connection that human beings can have with the nighttime. Requests for Qualifications are invited from experienced artists or artist/design teams, to develop a site-specific public artwork/s for the University of Maryland. • The work will be part of the renovation of a courtyard in proximity to the university’s visual art and humanities buildings. Deadline For Submissions: August 17, 2008 at 6:00pm. Is politics a process by which a community governs itself or a form of war? By its very nature, art is a political act - an individual's response to something external. The theme of this show is Politics and War. Are they one and the same? Why? Why not? Is politics a neutral vessel, implicit in democratic governance? Or is there an inseparable link between politics and war? Asleep at the Wheel seeks Entries for Political Art Show - WA
Deadline: August 22, 08. Asleep at the Wheel seeks politically charged submissions from artists in the Pacific NW. The Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2009 - DC
Enter the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2009, sponsored by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.  Call for Entries in all visual arts media:  June 2 – July 31, 2008.  First prize: $25,000 and an opportunity for a commission to create a portrait of a remarkable living American for the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.  The competition and resulting exhibition will celebrate excellence and innovation, with a strong focus on the variety of portrait media used by artists today.
