(New) A Studio in the Woods - LA
Deadline: August 4, 2008. A Studio In the Woods (ASITW) is calling to artists from all disciplines who are committed to engaging their communities in addressing the sort of ecological challenges that are exemplified in Southern Louisiana for a new ecological residency entitled Changing Landscapes. Seeking artists who show an ability to incorporate investigative methods and collaboration with community, educators, or environmental activists in their creative vision. Artists will be asked to make a public presentation of their work and provide explanation of how their art actually makes an impact on collective action and the environment in realistic terms. Artists may apply for their first, second and third choice of 6-week residency dates from the following: November 3-December 15, 2008; January 5-February 16, 2009; or March 2-April 14, 2009. Recipients will be given $3500 as a stipend and $1500 towards materials. ASITW covers costs associated with room and board including food, utilities for living and studio space. Residents are expected to cover personal living expenses, additional materials and supplies, telephone charges, and any other expenses relating to the cost of producing work incurred while in the program. (New) Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Auvillar Workshops for Painters and Writers - VA
The center offers a series of intensive writing and painting workshops held in the south of France. Each workshop will offer individual attention and in-depth critiques from award-winning writers and poets. Workshops are 6-7 days in length and are scheduled from May through September. Has a website for art students and educators. The site offers a wealth of arts education tools and information. The library catalogue offers 800,000 volumes and other research tools and another 54,000 pages related to works of art and reports in conservation and art history. The Clay Studio of Missoula Artist Residencies - MT
Offers a rent-free, semi-private studio in exchange for teaching an 8-week class for adults. Residency periods run from 2-6 months in length. Application process is ongoing. Application fee: $10. SPACES World Artists Program - OH
Offers artist residencies to national and international artists. Participants may be at any stage of their careers as long as they can be self-sufficient in a new environment, are comfortable meeting new people, and can create new work towards an exhibition. Residency period runs 6 weeks in length. Artists are asked to participate in some type of public program (workshop, public lecture, community project, etc.); have an exhibition at the SPACES gallery; be available to the public for studio hours; and donate a small work for the annual benefit auction. Artists receive a working studio, living quarters, a $2,000 honorarium, stipend for housing, and a small budget for materials. St. Petersburg Clay Company Artist-in-Residence Program - FL
Open to pre-professional, emerging clay artists. The program provides the time and the facilities to develop their work. Participants receive access to all facilities, teaching opportunities, admission to all workshops, and studio space. Must be 18 years of age and older to apply; have completed a reasonable amount of secondary education; be able to demonstrate adequate experience in ceramics; and submit a portfolio of work to substantiate acceptance into the program. Residency period runs 1 year in length, and may be extended for an additional year. In exchange, participants are required to work 12 hours a week at the facilities, and have an exhibition of their completed work during the residency period. Offers funding to emerging American artists and craftspeople through a biennial award. New England Foundation for the Arts Offers Funding for Native American Artists - MA
See deadlines below. The New England Foundation for the Arts is accepting grant proposals for the Native Arts @ NEFA program. The program will provide grants in amounts up to $3,000 each to support Native artists residing in New England. Projects should focus on art making and its benefit to New England communities. Projects may address preservation of arts and cultural traditions, contemporary native arts, and/or training and technical assistance. Eligible applicants include Native artists demonstrating knowledge and experience in their art form, medium, or media; Native organizations committed to preserving and encouraging art and art making in their communities; and artists and organization leaders who are members of or affiliated with a Native American tribal nation and reside in one of the six New England states. Application deadlines are January 15, 2008 (for projects occurring between March 1, 2008, and February 28, 2009); and July 15, 2008 (for projects occurring between September 1, 2008, and August 31, 2009).
