American Sedan Secrets, Engine
American Sedan Secrets, Engine
The Engine:
Lower End
Use Wiesco or Keith Black Flat top pistons. Use a Corvette LT-1 Style cam system with solid lifters and matching valve springs. Also, fit the pistons in the block and measure how much to deck the block but, leave a few thousandths from zero deck heighth for high rpm comfort. Use a 7 quart oil pan or you'll go dry on the corners (been there, done that).
Upper End
Mill the heads, get a competition valve grind and match the ports. Use a Holly #4776 600cfm 4-barrel carb and an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold.
This is enough to win races and will do until you get extra money to make more improvements.
Lessons Learned: Use a double roller timing chaing with a cam gear to block bearing. We failed one and trashed a set of valves and dented a piston.
