American Sedan Secrets, Roll Cage

Roll Cage:
The roll cage is the first important item. It must be stiff for the weight you are putting in. You can achieve this by having it work together with the body of the car to obtain maximum stiffness with out adding excess tubes and weight.

If your good you can bend the tube such that it touches the roof off the car in all four corners. You are not allowed to weld to the roof because that would count as another attachment point. By touching the roof you cause a synergistic effect. The roof and roll cage work together to stiffen the car more than each can do seperatly.

SCCA rules call for an 8 point roll cage. It does not go through the dash panel (fire wall, cars don't have fires any more, according to the manufacturers). Extra internal cross bracing is legal and is a good idea for stiffness.

Material: 1.750 OD X 1.500 ID (.125 wall) DOM MECH A-513/5 1020 SRA on 10/19/95 100 feet was $302.25 at Earle M. Jorgensen Co. Comes in 20 ft. lengths. I used 80 ft.
