Cinco de Mayo Funology

May 5th

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victorious battle between Mexican President Benitao Juares and Texas-born General Ignacio Zaragoza and the French forces lead by Napoleon III. This battle, held at Puebla, Mexico on May 5, 1862 signified the defeat of the French and their efforts to establish a governmental presence in Mexico. In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is one of the nation's major holidays. Traditional celebrations of Cinco De Mayo include parades, festivals, music, dancing and bountiful meals.
