Flag Day Funology June 14 While June 14 is a not a national holiday, it is a day set aside to celebrate the adoption of the American flag in 1777. The early origin of this celebration dates back to 1885 and grew over three decades through local and governmental activities. President Woodrow Wilson, on May 30, 1916, proclaimed that June 14 be know as Flag Day, but it was President Harry Truman on August 3, 1949, who signed an Act of Congress that made this date National Flag Day. Traditional ways to celebrate Flag Day include flying the flag, political speeches and individual means of expressing patriotic pride. Crafts and Activities:
