Thanksgiving Funology November 22, 2001 Plymouth, Massachusetts was the home of one of the earliest Thanksgiving in 1621. The guest to this 3-day feast included both Pilgrims and Native Americans. In 1789 President George Washington proclaimed November 26 as a National Day of Thanksgiving in order that all people would reflect on their good fortune and prosperity. It was not until 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving to be the last Thursday in November that the holiday gained recognition. Then, in 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday to the 4th Thursday in November. Traditional celebrations the holiday includes the gathering of family and friends for a festive meal, which consists of turkey, vegetables, potatoes, stuffing, cranberries and pies.
