THE GABBY SCHOOL I do not believe that there are too many of us around who attended a one or two room grammar school. For that reason I thought it would be interesting to see how many folks that we could locate that attended the old Gabby School in Washington Pa. That is the sole function of this page. If you attended or know someone that did maybe you would like to send us some information which we could add to this modest page. When I attended the Gabby School it was a two room school which had all eight grades. Four grades per room and two teachers one of whom served as the Principal. The school is located at the intersection of Franklin Farms Road and Gabby Avenue. It served as a public school until the early 1950's when a new consolidated school was built on property donated by the Gabby family. The old school has been used as a hay barn, church, fire station, and a kindergarten. The graduates from the Gabby School attended Trinity High School upon graduation. Just think of the impact a teacher had on your life when he or she was responsible for your education for four years. It took a special kind of person to accept that kind of responsibility for forty or so children every year. We would like to dedicate this page to Mrs. Florence M. Blayney and all the other teachers who taught in one and two room schoolhouses.
