Winchester's Stalking Ghost
Frederick County, Virginia
Case: 08122006
House: Private Residence, 2 level brick house w/basement, built in 1964.
Time in current home: 4 years.

Late fall of 2006, I received an email with photo attachment from a woman named "Anh".  She wrote about recent anomalous activity that occurred in her house within the last fifteen months.  Anh and her teen daughters have been hearing strange noises, seeing inanimate objects rearranging themselves, and supernatural pestering were experienced by both the mother and her daughters, that occurred mostly in the middle of the night. She also noted that the prior owner of the house died of cancer in the first floor bedroom.

Photo A below was taken by Anh's mother while photographing the front of the house, capturing what she said to be a vortex streaming outward through their dining room window and over the driveway.  This photo prompted her to contact S.E.A.R.C.H.

This is the digital photo that was attached to the email.

The anomaly which at first appears to be a falling leaf have unusual elements once
observed closely. It appears to be semi translucent, spotted with multiple colors and
textures (not in scale with a leaf of its size), and it is the only leaf that’s airborne on
this photo. One must also ask, would a leaf that is gently falling cause such a blur?

There is also a history of unexplained phenomena at their previous home, a rented 19th century farmhouse in Clearbrook, VA. Anh’s family lived in this seven acres farmhouse for 5 years and have, along with other family members and friends, experienced paranormal activity during that period; door opening and closing by itself, objects falling off shelves, an unhooked portrait found on the floor, and the family dog growling while staring into the empty kitchen.
January of 2007, a letter was sent to the current owner of the Clearbrook farmhouse to request an interview but I did not receive a reply.

Incident details at the Winchester home:

- Approximately a year ago, her daughters were sharing the same bed in the second floor bedroom. Late in the night, the oldest was abruptly awakened as she was being pulled by her right ankle downward to the foot of the bed, about a meter. She did feel some pain on her heel. Her sister was sound asleep during this event.

November:
- Around 03:00 AM, Anh was awakened by tapping on her shoulders. There was no one in the bedroom and her girls were sound asleep.

- At 01:40 AM, the youngest daughter was in the basement using the computer and she heard loud sounds coming from above, as to a heavy ball bouncing off the living room floor. She went upstairs to see what caused the noise but the floor was clear from any irregular objects. On the same night at 02:50 AM, Anh heard the house's front doorknob rattle furiously for about 20 seconds. Both the entry door and storm door remained closed and locked during this incident.

- One evening, Anh sensed a strong presence in the dining room. She walked in and proceeded to say out loud "is there anybody here?" She immediately felt a powerful wave of nausea and ran out to the kitchen and vomiting into the sink.  She stated that she feels very uncomfortable in this room and tries to avoid going in.

- The youngest daughter heard tapping emitting from outside of her 2nd floor bedroom window. The family dog reacted to the knocks and started to bark at the window for about minute. She said that there are no trees (branches) next to this window outside.
Preliminary Onsite Investigation: December 8, 2006    08:15 PM - 11:00PM
Team: Norm Gagnon and Jeremy (Senior Scientific Consultant)

Environmental readings were conducted both in and outside the property. Background baseline measurements from radiation, magnetic, electric, and water conductivity taken and logged. Temperature: average with surrounding environment as expected.

Second Investigation: Saturday, February 3, 2007   09:00 PM – 03:45 AM

Jeremy and I agreed that it would be best to station ourselves in two separate rooms in the house where most of the activities occurred. Jeremy took the 2nd floor bedroom and I the living room / dining room area, staying in contact with two-way radios.

Results:

During the course of our investigations, we did not detect any unusual disturbances or readings from our instruments on either night. No anomalies were captured on film. A third investigation may be implemented at a later date.

Update: Summer of 2007 - Family moved to North Carolina.
