Due to family duties, the Cat-House is not being updated. Sorry about that, but when I get a slow night I'll put something on here for the fans. I have been to several small shows this winter. Taken some nice pics. See you at Whiteout next weekend. Elkland Summer Show Cancer Fund Raiser is 7-14-07.

Elkland Vintage Muscle Snowmobile Show
Breaks Record Again!

On July 8, 2006, an estimated 300 people strolled the old Elkland High School Sports Field, on Coates Avenue in Elkland, PA, to examine the 80 sleds entered into the judging competition and another 15 or so available in the swap meet. The combined efforts of three snowmobile clubs raised over $1,422 dollars for the American Cancer Society.  Clubs that assisted with this years show included the Vintage Snowmobile Club of America, the Pennsylvania Vintage Snowmobile Club and the North-East Pennsylvania Snow-Trails group.

This year’s show had a growth in high quality show sleds of almost 30% above last year. It also means donations more than doubled over last year.  Big hits were the new charity memorabilia auction that raised almost 600 dollars, the better set-up arrangement and more positive press and support from the Elkland Area Chamber of Commerce, who really worked hard to support the show this year. As usual, Terry Bashoor of B&B Small Engine of Massillon Ohio brought the pretty Jonsered for the saw raffle that was later won by Sam Polito of Webster, NY. He also brought along the mother of all weed whackers, a huge 6hp Ariens pusher string trimmer, donated by the Ariens factory, that was later won by one of his customers from back home. The VSCA contributed 4 yearlong memberships as consolation prizes. The weather was also absolutely perfect throughout the entire day and it encouraged the wives to walk uptown and enjoy the other many sights of the Elkland Jubilee.

Show highlights included the return of the Big Moose Arctic Cat semi-truck and its load of restored Rupp racers.  Not to be outdone, four private Yamaha collectors ganged up on one side of the field and made sure the large collection of 1976 SRX were heard during the noontime memorial fire up.  You have to love the smell of race fuel in the afternoon!  Swapper highlights included a super rare 1970 440 Panther MOD for sale, complete with a pile of spare parts, for only 300 dollars.  Other oddball notables included two 793 King Kats and a 793 Chaparral.

Best of Show Award went to Corky Fisher’s stunning 1971 Lynx 340 MOD. Competition was extremely tight this year and it finally came down to a majority vote amongst the four judges for what sled best represented the spirit of EVMSS. This extremely clean and rare little sled simply speaks volumes about this hobby and the way it was displayed magnified its presence. Corky had both the chrome megaphone attached and the optional factory stinger restored and sitting along side the sled on a blanket. He also had the original NOS gloves and hats sitting on the seat. As part of an EVMSS rule change, next year, this sled will be asked to come back for a place of honor in our winner’s circle, and be retired from active EVMSS competition.   Read below for a complete winners list.
