SKULL CRUSHED TO BITS
A. E. ALLEN DANGEROUSLY INJURED BY RUNAWAY HORSE
About 7:30 o'clock yesterday morning as A. E. ALLEN was working tearing up some old track at the corner of Eleventh and Main Street, a runaway horse, which had broken loose from a street car, ran over him and inflicted injuries which will doubtless cause his death.
The animal struck the unfortunate man from behind, horse and man falling together. As the frightened animal struggled to regain his feet, he pawed ALLEN about the head and face, striking him several times, cutting a long, deep scalp wound and fracturing the skull at the base of the head. ALLEN was otherwise injured about the face and body and bled profusely. The patrol wagon was at once called and the wounded man taken to the Receiving Hospital, where Dr. Bryant bandaged up his head and put him to bed as he was too weak from loss of blood to be operated upon. The wife of the poor fellow was at the hospital begging to be allowed to see her husband at an early hour, but was not allowed to see his pitiable condition until after he had been operated on.
He underwent the operation yesterday afternoon about 1:30 o'clock the skull being found in a terrible state. The bones of the skull were crushed all around the head, one piece of bone two inches square resting directly on the brain and clots of blood having formed in numerous places.
Some portions of the frontal bone were crushed like an egg-shell, and although no change was noticeable after the operation it is the opinion of the doctor that the patient has not one chance in a thousand for recovery. Mrs. ALLEN has been at his side all afternoon and evening, patiently and sadly watching every movement of the stricken man.
ALLEN was 55 years of age and lived with his family on San Rafael Avenue in the Highland Park addition. The injured man has lived in Los Angeles about two years and has always been known as hardworking, sober and industrious. He was a free Mason, having belonged to that order for a number of years.

James Lafayette ROBERTS was born 1830 at Warren County, Tennessee. He married Susannah Mae PEED 24 April 1856 at Patton, Bollinger County, Missouri. He died 19 April 1886 at Marshfield, Webster County, Missouri. I have a picture in my possession that is most likely James Lafayette ROBERTS. Until I am able to prove the authenticity of the picture, I will not publish it.

Susannah Mae PEED was born 18 October 1840 Tennessee. She was most likely born in Warren County, Tennessee. I have documentation placing her father in Warren County in 1839. According to family history, James and Susannah were cousins. This is possible as one of Susannah's sisters death certificate list her mothers maiden name as ROBERTS. She died 14 November 1906 at Wayne, McClain County, Oklahoma. She is buried at Hoppings Cemetery, Wayne, McClain County, Oklahoma.
Leroy BEVERS was born 1836 Giles County, Tennessee. Married 23 August 1877 Margaret PETTY at Kaufman County, Texas. He died about 1890. He probably died in either Kaufman or Hunt County, Texas.
Margaret PETTY was born 1850 Red River, Lafayette County, Arkansas. She died about 1896. She probably died in either Hunt or Fannin County, Texas. After her death her minor children William, Julia and Thomas Charles were raised by her younger brother William "Uncle Billy".

Death Results From a Fractured Hip Caused by a Fall
Mrs. Catherine L. FAREWELL WAGNER an old and much respected resident of Wolfrun, died Thursday, January 2d at 7 a.m. On October 27th she fell and broke her right hip and had been a great sufferer since.
Deceased was born in the town of Ischua, March 9th 1826, making her nearly 82 years old. She was the oldest of a family of sixteen children and was the mother of eight children. Six of them now living, Mesdames E. MORGAN of Waterford, Michigan, S. A. ALLEN of Los Angeles, Cal. and F. HILDRETH of Scio. Joseph and Theodore of Wolfrun and John of Lyndon. She is also survived by five sisters, one of whom (Mrs. Linderman) attended the funeral.
Deceased and her husband with five children came to Wolfrun nearly 48 years ago. Her husband Adam WAGNER died May 7th 1892. Since then she has lived a greater part of her time on the old homestead with her son Theodore.
A large concourse of friends and neighbors attended the funeral which was held at her late home Saturday, January 4th. Burial at Cuba. Rev. F. ROULLO of Portville officiated, his text was Rev. 14 13, the one chosen by Mrs. WAGNER before her death.
Note: Family name was sometimes spelled incorrectly in documents as FAREWELL as it was in her obituary.

Trying to find the parents of James Lafayette ROBERTS was beginning to look like a task I would never realize....until another researcher (unrelated) sent one small piece of information that finally unlocked the whole puzzle. To him I am truly grateful.
Caswell Cobb ROBERTS was born 30 October 1804 probably in Anderson County, Tennessee. He married Nancy PIGG about 1828 probably in Warren County, Tennessee. He died after 25 November 1890 when his Will was drawn. I do not know his place of burial, but highly suspect that he is buried next to his parents at Asbury Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.
Nancy PIGG was born about 1805 Tennessee. She died about 1840 at Warren County, Tennessee. I suspect that she is buried at Asbury Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.
Martin PEED was born 1798 at Beaufort County, North Carolina. He married Mary Polly ROBERTS about 1833. They were probably married at Warren County, Tennessee. It is unknown when Martin died. I would estimate between 1850 and 1860. He appears on the 1850 Cape Girardeau County, Missouri census but cannot be located anywhere in the 1860 census. Some of his daughter are on the 1860 census, living with other families. It is possible that he is buried at the Post Oak Church Cemetery at Patton, Bollinger County, Missouri.
Mary Polly ROBERTS was born about 1813 Tennessee. Date of death unknown. She also cannot be located on the 1860 census. She is possibly buried at the Post Oak Church Cemetery, Patton, Bollinger County, Missouri.
John Clack BEVERS (BEAVERS) was born about 1812 possibly at Giles County, Tennessee. He married Judith (?) about 1833 probably at Giles County, Tennessee. Date of death unknown. Moved to Texas after 1850. (Was enumerated in 1850 Giles County, Tennessee.) Suspect that he died in either Robertson or Kaufman County, Texas.
Judith (?) was born about 1815. Some census reports list her place of birth as Georgia while others list Alabama. Date of death unknown. Suspect she is buried in either Robertson or Kaufman County, Texas.
