Mick finished his JH in style today! I think we'll run Senior in the Spring and get some hunting in this Fall. He had his first dove hunt last week and did a great job finding the birds in the soybeans. I don't think I've ever had a dog that has used his nose so well - dove are a different type of bird and he definitely "got it". Anyway, just reporting in to the proud grandparents...I am so happy with him - he's just a great dog and quite the charmer.
Thanks for letting me enjoy him.

We trained yesterday-and the baby girl was the star! Barely 6mos!
Set up three marks, (finally had enough throwers-the big dogs were happy to get the triples!), first one on hte left, thru some shallow water and out along the bank, in front of a tule patch(barrier bird) about 60yds. She nails it! 2nd bird, about 70 yds, down a bank(i run her from the bottom tthough) cross about 15ft of shallow water, then cover about 12" high. Bird fell in it-(though I didnt retire the gunner like I did for the big dogs) and she nails it within about 5 ft! Was a big ole pheasant rooster!
3rd bird- LONG... out to sea but more of the mark is along the shore but bird falls in the deep water. About 150 yds I bet! Willie made it out there( didnt hesitate on the distance at all) and got that bird. I guess she only got ahold of the wing and didnt like that so swam around it til she could get a better grip on it. boy was i PROUD! :) Such a dreamboat she is.-and likes her comfort like her momma, she loves the couch, and the pillow...:)

Hi Cindy,
Good to here from you. My little girl Missie is just doing fine. She had a great first duck and dove season last year and is looking forward to her second season coming up. I got to do some basic before the season last year. She was doing easy single, doubles and triple marks, started with the whisel training doing the sit, come, stay, along with the overs and hand signal, and was playing baseball with whisel and hand signals. After the season started I never worked much with her other than the hunting of which after I finally got started by Christmas, we where going about three of four times a week. What she lacks in the training she just made up in hunting in the field. She did well at hunting out the birds, missed a few of the harder ones, but I expected that. She was looking back for hand signal from me and took them fairly well but not without fault, but that was expected. I was really satisfied with her. She is always on fire and ready to go. Smart to the point of scary sometimes. Brains and desire she has. I wish I was able to train her better. I wish I had her back a few years when I was able to train like I did with my other dogs. I know she would be through the AKC Junior title and be working on her Senior title by now, if not also completed. I feel she is probable the smartest dog I have owned. I wish my health was better so I could do her justice.

Always happy to "show off"! Thanks for e-mailing me and taking interest - I am having so much fun with Mick, he is learning something new every day and such a handsome boy! I have a friend who has an old tobacco farm in Maryland and we're going out there today to run around and have some fun in the water and tall grass. If we can find a good place to go we'll also go dove hunting opening day the first week in September. Also, there's a club that has fall hunt test that I always go to in Oct that has a puppy stake so we'll definitely do that and I'll run Master with my 5 year old female. Please do keep in touch and let me know how Bear is doing - I've seen his pictures on your website, he is beautiful. (Mickie X Bear)

Hi-here are some fairly recent pictures of Riparian Copperopolis. (Copper) He is an absolute delight and loves to be with me whatever I am doing. I have gotten over 20 ducks and 15 quail over him so far this winter. I have killed 8 honkers this season but have yet to challenge Copper with that large a retrieve. Thanks again for your part is getting us an exceptional lab. Randy M (Gret X Bear)
I highly recommend getting one of Bear's pups. Bear is exactly what a
quality Lab should be. He's good looking, well-built, intelligent, easy
to train, and has the qualities that make a good hunting dog, such as
desire, marking ability, and a great nose. We've been very impressed
with the puppies in our two litters with Bear. They have natural hunting
ability, are intelligent, and have great personalities. For example, we
had one excited owner call us after his pup retrieved 12 doves during
her first dove hunt when she was just 6 months old. A couple weeks later
he said she did a great job retrieving ducks on her first duck hunt. And
this was with a minimal amount of training.
Another thing to consider is that Bear has achieved the highest levels
of success in licensed hunt tests and he is completely amateur trained.
In other words, his owners did not send him to a pro to be trained. This
is evidence of his intelligence and trainability. Good luck and send me
an email if you have any other questions.

Oh,also, heres a quote from an obedience( competetive ) trainer who wrote me yesterday. Pretty cool.! Also one of Mickie/Bear puppies.
Just wanted to let you know how well Shannon's puppy, Painter is doing. Six months old now. She is without a doubt one of the most talented heeling dogs I have seen. She is focused, animated. I told her she should have her husband video tape her & send you some.
I really like her. And she is on the smaller size. I like that. Shannon kept thinking she was going to get so big but she is really a nice size & never really got gangly or ackward looking. I expect she is still going to get a little taller. I think Shannon thought she was going to get as big & tall as Parker.
Today, when we started working Painter, one of my other students arrived who has a Golden. They started heeling around each other, she didn't even glance his way. It was amazing. I am like, she is 6 mos old. I have only had one dog like that & that was Kellie. I brought her out in novice at 15 mo old. No, Painter won't be in novice at 15 mo. but people will be shocked when they see her. Cute,

Willie obtained her JH title in 4/4 tests in Spring ‘07. She consistently pinned almost every mark! Shes shown a lot of potential for a successful hunt test career. Willie is just a love in the home and shes proven to fit in with the family tradition- she is a 4th Generation Waterspook puppy! Watch for Willie Wonka in Senior tests in ‘08!
January 23,2008 Bella ( T X Bear litter )
Sorry I am lousy with a camera but I took a friend and his 12 year old son out on their first duck hunt last week and my friend has a camera. We were hunting in flooded rice near Willows, CA. Bella is now almost 16 months old and is enjoying the heck out of her first hunting season. Her waterfowl retrieving has gotten very good. She will lie still for hours, covered with rice straw, with her head constantly turning searching the sky for ducks or geese. She has finally figured out that when we all jump up and start shooting she should look in the direction of the gun barrels and is doing a great job marking birds. Doubles are fairly easy for her now and she holds steady most of the time and waits until I tell her to mark the bird and send her on the retrieve.
I did not have a chance to work her on club birds before wild pheasant season but she did o.k. and just has to figure out that she has to spend more time down in the tule ditch and less time running up the bank to me so I can tell her what a good job she is doing. I plan to work her on upland game this spring.
I am sending more emails with pictures taken by my friend.
Other than a destructive bent toward potted flowers when she is home alone, Bella is an absolutely wonderful dog to be around and everyone loves her. Karen did a great job in obedience training and in force fetch training. Next summer I will return her to Karen for hand signals and whatever else I can think of.
Thanks for the great dog.
