Richard Petty grew up in a racing Family. His father Lee Petty won Nascar's Grand National Championship (Now Winston Cup) three times. As a boy, Richard itched to get behind the wheel and race someday, once he did get behind the wheel.....RACE he did! The "King" set records that will more then likely never be broken.
Although Richard Petty's driving record speaks for itself. In my opinion he is the "King" due to his way with his fans. At any race he can be found wearing his trade-mark cowbow hat, boots and shades...signing autographes for fan's. Richard Petty has never let his fame and popularity go to his head. He has always remained grounded, and has through it all...remembered what made him who he is today.....his fan's! The King is one of the few people who seem to enjoy his fan's. He is never too busy to stop to take a picture or sign and autograph. His sincerity can be felt by all who come in contact with him.
