Conditions
You can drive (slowly) in a car to our Bonanza Creek claims. When the water is down you can drive a 4-wheeler or truck to our claims on Butte Creek. When the snow melts in late July & August you can get to the camp on upper Miller Creek. There are three camps on Bonanza with beds for 14, chow hall, semi-running water & flush toilets. On Butte there are few improvements on the claims other than the two crude camps we built, a trail road and a few old 1906 miner cabins. Butte Creek has been mined in places having pulled out more than a million in gold in the lower 2000 feet, but it is virgin up stream from the Holy Ghost Pup to the Wild Rivers line. This will be our second year on the new virgin claims upstream and we expect even greater success. There are many nice semi-flat spots to make your camps beside the creeks where you dredge. There are still miles of Butte, Miller, & Bonanza that are pure virgin. We haul in our supplies from Fairbanks and get our drinking water from the creek , filter & boil it.
It is a 98-mile drive to Fairbanks or 47 miles to Central City for gas, phone, radios, supplies & Reese's Cups. You will find this a real Alaskan adventure not a tourist operation in any way.
The weather is going to change often so all types of clothing are required. And the Alaska state birds are plentiful. There is so much to do in Alaska that you can return for years and still have a lifetime of beauty to look forward to. I wont be around forever, but you can learn the skills to continue on and keep this way of life. We can send you pictures, maps, and want lists to help you in your plans.
Someday when you get back home and are sitting around a campfire & sharing tales about strange things done, in the midnight sun, you might just snicker and say
"Yep, I did that with the old man!"
"Sun never Sets & Bears, Moose & Caribou are bigger than Life!"
