Forever Sisters

Sisterly Love...

Karyl is my only sister; she's four years younger than I am.

When we were little, I can remember making up commericals with her and taping them on my cassette recorder. We would sing and mimic the popular commericals from radio and t.v. I would beg her to play "Barbies" with me. Back then, though, she had little use for Barbie. She was much more excited by Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, and let's not forget Strawberry Shortcake. Our bedroom walls were painted bubblegum pink, our carpet; mossy green. In between, Strawberry Shortcake and her entourage of friends and their pets adorned our curtains, bedspreads, pillowcases, sheets, wastebasket.... we had it all. Even matching Strawberry Shortcake dresses. I had a purse to match. Oh, and roller skates too.

When Karyl was born, I was thrilled. "Now I have a real, live baby-doll" was my thought. She was THE cutest baby, too. She should have been in a Pampers commerical! I was always wanting to hold her and hug her. I constantly kissed her chubby, little cheeks.

There was a period of time we didn't get along. Well, it was understandable. What does a teenager and a child have in common? Nothing! She couldn't get understand what the big deal was about "boys". I, on the other hand was boy crazy! We drifted apart for a few years.

Now, we're both adults and soon she'll be living "in the real world". She'll have her own apartment, a car and a full-time job. As we age, we definitely seem to bridge the gap that once separated us. For that, I am thankful.

I love her more each and everyday. It has been a journey watching her grow and blossom into the wonderful young woman she is today.
