THE GOSPEL OF LIFE RIBBON CAMPAIGN "No one but the Creator is the sovereign of basic human rights -- beginning with the right to life." Living the Gospel of Life: A Challenge to American Catholics, a Statement by the Catholic Bishops of the United States. This site is dedicated to the sanctity of all human life and is in response to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops' statement quoted above. Please read the full statement at the NCCB website. Read Pope John Paul II's encyclical, "Evangelium Vitae" (The Gospel of Life). NEW TO OUR SITE: A PARISH PRAYER SERVICE FOR LIFE Site Index [Home] [Statement of Purpose] [Email us] [Favorite Links] [Consecration to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal] [Parish Prayer Service for Life] This Roman Catholic WebRing site owned by Gospel of Life Ribbon Campaign. This internet based apostolate has been founded in response to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops challenge to all Catholics to live the Gospel of Life. Our goal is to promote the wearing of purple lapel ribbons as an outward sign to the entire world that we will not tolerate legalized killing through abortion or euthanasia. Please join us in creating a sea of purple ribbons to be peaceful beacons in a chaotic and confused secular world. As Christians, and especially as Catholics, we are called to profess the Gospel of Life in our daily lives. We must urge our political leaders to ban abortion and move to ensure that euthanasia will not be sanctioned by law. By the same token we must demand prudent use of the death penalty as it is also a sanctity of life issue and not to be entered into lightly. We have chosen purple for the color of the ribbon because that is the traditional color for Bishops within the Holy Catholic Church. We would also like to encourage the addition of a Miraculous Medal in the center of the ribbon. We Consecrate our apostolate to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. You may prepare your own lapel ribbon by measuring a four and half inch piece of purple ribbon, forming a loop by crossing the ends, and securing the looped ribbon and Miraculous Medal with a safety pin through the back of the ribbon to your left lapel. We launched our apostolate on January 22, 1999 as this date marked the 26th year since the Supreme court's upholding of the decision in the court case Roe vs. Wade. Please join us in spreading the Gospel of Life through the daily wearing of your purple lapel ribbon until the secular world ends abortion and euthanasia. When the priest and ministers arrive, all stand in silence. The ministers bow to the altar and go to their places.) SIGN OF THE CROSS GREETING OPENING WORDS God loved us so much that he has shared his life with us. Even when we disobeyed him and lost his friendship, he loved us more than ever and sent Jesus, his son, to lead us home. Tonight we keep vigil and pray to the Father though Jesus his Son. We ask Him to fill our hearts and the hearts of our leaders with a love for the great gift of life. We will spend much time in silence tonight, asking God to hear our quiet hearts. May he grant us the gifts of compassion, hope and patient endurance as we seek to protect the innocent, sustain those who are fragile and guide those who are confused. GOSPEL All remain standing as the deacon, or in his absence the priest, proclaims the gospel: Matthew 18: 1-5.1012-14. The Gospel is proclaimed from the Lectionary for Mass. It is found on page 601, the Gospel for Tuesday of the Nineteenth Week of the Year. HOMILY A brief homily may then be given, followed by an extended period of silent prayer.
