First Generation

1. Pierre1 Vissage birth date unknown. Pierre died before 1641 when his son Jacob was married. Who he married is not known. Pierre Vissage and his wife had the following children.

2 i. Jaque Vissage. b. ? died 3 May 1658 Canterbury, , Kent, England. He may have married Margarite ________. Margarite and Jaque Vissage participated in a number of baptisms of children in the Walloon church in Canterbury between 1641 and 1644. It is possible that Margarite is the mother or sister of Jaque, Jacob, Pierre, and Perrone instead of Jaque's wife. Jaque (James) and Peter wrote a joint will. Peter was the survivor and executor. The will provided for " our brothers and sister" and a legacy to poor of the Strangers Church of Canterbury." Wtinesses: Mich Morell, Anth Desie, Anth Denes.

4 iii. Perrone Vissage. Her name is listed among the witnesses as various baptisms.

+ 5 iv. Jacob Vissage.

v. Francis (Nicholas) Visage. His name listed in will of his brother Pierre (Peter) Vissage. Children: Mary (named in will of uncle Pierre Visage)

vi. Sinke(?)Visage married Mathew Bugine. Children: Mathew, Philip, Jacob, Anne and Francis. She is listed with her husband and children in the will of her brother Pierre.

Second Generation

3.Pierre2 Vissage (Pierre1) birth date unknown. He married Marie PRUNNO in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 16 Apr 1666. Marie was born in Canterbury, Kent, England and probably died before 1677. She was the daughter of Jean PRUNNO. Pierre Vissage left a detailed will naming many of his nephews and nieces dated 14 December 1677 with a codicil dated 20 July 1678. [Comment: Unsure if this marriage and child acutally belong to this Pierre or to his nephew named in the will for whom a father has not been identified.]

Pierre VISAGE and Marie PRUNNO had the following child:

6 i. Jeane3 VISAGE was born in Canterbury, Kent, England 12 Dec 1670. She was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 18 Dec 1670.

4.Jacob2 Vissage (Pierre1) He was born in Nieppe, Flanders ca 1618 and died before 1677 when his brother, Pierre, listed him in his will as "my late Brother Jacob Visage." Jacob married Magdeleine Le Clercq in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 23 Jan 1645. Magdeleine was born in Canterbury, Kent, England. She was the daughter of Michiel Le Clercq and a native of Canterbury. After Jacob's death in 1680 Magdeleine moved to London and joined the Threadneedle Street French Huguenot Church. In the records of that church she is listed as widow of Jacob Visage. Jacob Vissage and Magdeleine Le Clercq had the following children:

vii. Pernall Vissage was mentioned in the will of her uncle Peter Visage. He calls her the daughter of my deceased brother Jacob and wife of Peter le Turlq.

?Francis (Nicholas) Visage. He is listed as brother in will of Peter (Pierre) Visage.

i. Mary Visage. She married Piere Le Turcq (Turql) before 1678. She is listed in the will of her uncle, Peter Visage

ii. Peter Visage. He is listed as nephew in will of Peter (Pierre) Visage. Do not know who his parents are. This may be the Peter who married Marie Prunno instead of his uncle Pierre.

iii. James Visage. He is listed as brother of Peter and a nephew in will of Peter (Pierre) Visage. Do not know who his parents are.

iv. Nicholas Visage. He is listed as brother of Peter and a nephew in will of Peter (Pierre) Visage. Do not know who his parents are.

?Sinke Vissage. She married Mathew Buginne. She is listed in the will of her brother Peter Visage.

7. Pierre3 VISAGE (Jacob2, Pierre1) birth date unknown. He married Jenne Cardon in St. Alphage, Canterbury, Kent, England, 3 Apr 1665. Pierre was listed as a member of a church in Threadneedle St. Church, London, England, 5 Sept 1680. He petitioned the court to become a citizen in London, England, 2 Mar 1681. Pierre Vissage and Jenne Cardon had the following children:

13 i. Jeane3 Vissage was born in Kent, England 8 Jan 1666. She was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 14 Jan 1666. She was buried 11 October 1666, St. Alphage Parish, Canterbury.

14 ii. Pierre Vissage was born in Kent, England 11 Nov 1667. He was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 14 Nov 1667.

15 iii. Parnel Vissage (daughter) was buried 14 July 1670 St. Alphage Parish, Canterbury.

16 iii. Jenne Vissage was born in Kent, England 12 Dec 1670. She was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent England, 18 Dec 1670.

17 iv. Susanne Vissage ws christened 6 Feb 1672 Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England.

18 iv. Ester Vissage was born in Kent, England 27 Feb 1675. She was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 5 Mar 1675.

19 v. Pironne Vissage was born in Kent, England 11 May 1678. She was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 12 May 1678.

8. Lea3 Vissage (Jacob2, Pierre1) birth date unknown, probably born after 1656. Lea was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 18 Aug 1661. She married Thomas Litteldike in St. Katherine by the Tower, London, London, England, 23 Jan 1686. Thomas was born ca 1657. Thomas was a silk framework knitter. His marriage record stated that he was age 29 and from Stepney. Her marriage record indicated that she was a spinster from Algate. Lea Vissage and Thomas Litteldike had the following children:

20 i. William4 Littledike. He was christened in St. Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London, England, 21 Aug 1687.

21 ii. James Littledike. He was christened in Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England, 23 Jul 1699.

22 iii. Charles Littledike. He was christened in Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England, 28 Nov 1700.

9. Jacob3 Vissage (Jacob2, Pierre1) birth date unknown, probably born after 1656 in Kent, England.He was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 19 Aug 1655. He married Susanne Lobeau in St. James, Duke Place, London, London, England, 26 Jun 1682. He is mentioned in the codicill to the will of his uncle as " my two nephews Peter and Jacob which I had forgotten being gone on a long viage." Jacob Vissage and Susanne Lobeau had the following children:

24 ii. Susanne Vissage. She married John Heydeboom in Saint James Dukes Place, London, London, 2 June 1696. She was christened in Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London, England, 1 Feb 1685.

25 iii. Jacob Vissage. He was christened in Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London, 31 Mar 1686.

+ 26 iv.Jacques Vissage. He was christened in Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London, 31 July 1687.

+ 27 v.Martha Vissage.

10. Marie3 VISAGE (Jacob2, Pierre1) birth date unknown, probably born after 1656 in Canterbury, Kent, England. Marriage announcement states that she is "natiue de Cantorberi." She married Balthasar CASIER in Threadneedle St French Huguenot Church, London, on 23 Jan 1681. He was a widower who had married Marie DUBOIS in London, 6 Mar 1679. Balthasar was born in Amsterdam.

Marie VISAGE and Balthasar CASIER had the following children:

28 i. Rachael4 CASIER was born in London Sept 1683. She was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 23 Sept 1683.

29 ii. Lea CASIER was born in London Mar 1685. She was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 29 Mar 1685.

30 iii. Susanna CASIER was born in London Dec 1686. She was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 25 Dec 1686.

31 iv. Maria CASIER was born in London Jun 1689. She was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 2 Jun 1689.

32 v. Jacob CASIER was born in London Apr 1691. He was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 26 Apr 1691.

33 vi. Esther CASIER was born in London Jan 1693. She|he was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 5 Jan 1693.

34 vii. Johannes CASIER was born in London Feb 1695. He was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 27 Feb 1695.

35 viii. Janneken CASIER was born Mar 1697. She|he was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 10 Mar 1697.

36 ix. Susannah CASIER was born in London Oct 1699. She was christened in Dutch Reform Church Austin Friars, 10 Oct 1699.

11. Jaque3 VISSAGE (Jacob2, Pierre1) was born in Kent, England 7 Feb 1649/50. He was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 10 Feb 1649/50. Jaque was listed as a member of a church in Threadneedle St. Church, London, England, 21 Oct 1681. He is described in his uncle Peter's 1677 will by the phrase " remembering that I have a nephew in Barbados or in the JsCe (?) who is called James Visage son__ of my late Brother Jacob Visage."

He married Anne ____ before 1690. His death is recorded as 8 Aug 1690 Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London. She married Thomas SHURLEY in Saint Dunstan's Parish, Stepney, England, 30 Jan 1692. Jaque Vissage and Anne had the following child:

37 i. James4 VISSAGE was born in Stepney, London, England July 1690. He was christened in Saint Dunstan's Parish, Stepney, London, England, 28 July 1690.

12. Jean3 VISSAGE (Jacob2, Pierre1_) was born in Kent, England 7 Feb 1649/50.He was christened in Walloon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, 10 Feb 1649/50. John (Jean?) Vissage burial recorded as 22 Mar 1724/5 in the Parish Registers of St. George the Martyr Church, Southwark, Surrey, England.

Jean Vissage had the following child:

+ 38 i. James4 VISSAGE was born bet 1665-75. [Note: That this James Vissage, father of William, Peter, Elizabeth and Thomas, is the son of Jean Vissage is a tenuous connection. No record has been located for the birth of this James or the birth of a child to Jean Vissage. James belongs some where. This, at present, seems like the most likely choice.

 

Fourth Generation

23. Jean4 Vissage (Jacob3, Jacob2, Pierre1) birth date unknown. She was christened in Threadneedle St French Huguenot Church, London, 1 July 1683.She married Jaque Samain in London, England, abt 1701. He had been previously married. The name of his first wife is unknown. Jaque's occupation: weaver. Jean Vissage and Jaque Samain had the following children:

39 i. Elizabeth5 Samain was born in Bednall Green, Stepney,Middlesex, England. She was christened in Threadneedle St. Huguenot Church, London, 13 Dec 1702.

40 ii. Jacques Samain was born in Bednall Green, Stepney,Middlesex, England. He was christened in Threadneedle St. French Huguenot, London, England, 16 Aug 1704.

41 iii. Judith Samain. She was christened in Threadneedle St. French Huguenot, London, England, 6 Oct 1706.

421 iv. Marthe Samain. She was christened in Threadneedle St. French Huguenot, London, England, 16 Jan 1709.

43 v. Jean Samain was born in Bednall Green, Stepney,Middlesex, England 19 July 1713. He was christened in Threadneedle St. French Huguenot, London, England, 26 July 1713.

27. Martha4 Vissage (Jacob3, Jacob2, Pierre1_) birth date unknown. She married Charles Dodsworth in Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London, 19 May 1711. She was christened in Saint Dunstan, Stepney, England, 16 May 1692. Martha Vissage and Charles Dodsworth had the following children:

44 i. Mary5 Dodsworth. She was christened in St. Giles, Cripplegate, London, London, England, 5 Feb 1715.

45 ii. Martha Dodsworth. She was christened in St. Giles Cripplegate, London, London, England, 23 Nov 1718.

38. James4 VISSAGE (Jean3 Vissage, Jacob2, Pierre1_) was born bet 1665-75. He resided in St. George the Martyr Parish, Southwark , Surrey (near London) in 1696. The births of his children are listed in the Registers of St. Geroge the Martyr Parish, Southwark, London, Surrey. No mother is listed in these registers. James VISSAGE had the following children:

46 i. William5 Vissage was born in Southwark, London, England.His christening was registered at St. George the Martyr Parish on 16 Mar 1696.

47 ii. Elizabeth Vissage was born in Southwark, London. His christening was registered at St. George the Martyr Parish on 25 Apr 1698.

48 iii. Peter Vissage was born in Southwark, London, England. His christening was registered at St. George the Martyr Parish on 8 Apr 1699.

+ 49 iv. Thomas Vissage was born in Sept 1702. His christening is registered was St. George the Martyr Parish on 22 Sept 1702. Thomas is the ancestor of the American Vissage family. He is described as a sailor in the London Daily Post and General Advertiser. He was sentenced to transportation to the Colonies in 1736.
