Silk Tree ~ FWHS Why Mimosa?

Albizia julibrissin, beter known as Mimosa is a small, delicate, fragile tree with an oriental style to it and like haiku there is some controversy about it: to some states the mimosa is considered a "trash tree." The Mimosa has fern-like foliage. Fragrant, silky, white puffy blooms, two inches in diameter, appear in abundance from late April to early July It is quite prolific. It blooms briefly then the pink puffs wither and fall and then the tree seeds with a bean type pod which falls and "litters the place." Mimosa when thought about at all are usually loved or hated, which again, is a bit like haiku. To the general public haiku is anything you can cram into 3 lines of 5/7/5 syllables, but many know better but getting some to belive that can be quite difficult. So for its graceful style, brief beauty and controversy we chose the Mimosa as the symbol of the FWHS.
