Ultimate Frisbee...and RPGs?

FLAMING FANTASY FRISBEES!

a web site that dares to combine Ultimate Frisbee with role playing games

Bringing together two things that Nature never meant to be united, this web site serves as an unofficial guide to Ultimate Frisbee in Houston and to the Tiers Campaign, a long-running Dungeons & Dragons game in a home-grown role-playing setting.

 Resources for Ultimate Frisbee--

Pickup Games in Houston: Whether you're only passing through town or you're getting back into the scene, you can use this page to find a game that's just right for you. Also available: a slew of links to other Ultimate teams/leagues in Texas. Updated May 5, 2002.

Houston Micro-League: Evidently, some local hotheads got together and decided that there just wasn’t quite enough Ultimate in Houston. So after some heavy drinking, they cobbled together a nameless Tuesday night league to be held on the Rice campus. The “season” lasts three weeks before the teams are collapsed and all participating players are reshuffled. It smacks of a Trotskyite plot to me, but I hear it’s pretty kewl. Interested? Contact Sean McCall by clicking here.

TBUF: It stands for…um…something Beach Ultimate something…eh, I don’t know. But anyway, it’ll be held down in Galveston on June 15. I think these are four-person teams. But I never participate, so how would I know? Anyway, if you want details, contact Tom Jackson by clicking here. Rumor has it that there will be up to 20 open teams and 40 co-ed teams in a 3m/1f format.

Funk Fest: A popular co-ed tournament in Dallas, held this year on the weekend of June 22-23. I’ve never been to this one but I’m assured that it’s 31 flavors and then some. This time out, it’s apparently a Weird Alice production, and there are enticing promises that tasty meals will be served by the women of Dallas Ultimate. Curious? Contact Maria Abanilla by clicking here. Sign up soon!

Nasty Nine: I’ve never heard of it, but then, I don’t get invited to the really cool parties anyway. This is a co-ed event to be held on the weekend of June 29-30 in New Orleans. It seems that teams must have a nine-person roster (including two subs) in a 6m/3f format. Contact Melanie Crout for more information.

Saturday Night Specials: A pompous and unnecessary history of a Houston team that's been a fixture at HURL and Centex.

You Oughta Be In Pictures: Lots and lots and lots of pictures of the SNS team and many other regular players in the Houston metropolitan area. Coming soon: photos from the Huckin’ For Love Tournament of February 2002!

HURL Listserver: Want to be in the know? Hey, who doesn't? Become a part of an e-mail distribution list for Houston Ultimate--there are nearly 200 members! If you're too lazy to go to the Stray Cone Sports site to sign up, I guess you could just click here.

 Resources for Role Playing--

Heroic Deeds: Numerous stories based on a currently defunct (or at least very sleepy) Dungeons & Dragons campaign.

NPC Nexus: Need some NPCs for a fantasy RPG campaign? These guys don't come with statistics, so they're not suitable as foes, but they can play the part of the Mysterious Stranger in Scene 28.

The Page of Purukivel: Assorted oddments about an Everquest character, a peace-loving troll shaman. (This page needs work; sadly, I rather stupidly deleted all of my accumulated EQ images.)

Resources To Be Avoided At All Costs--

A Little Night Music: My humble "radio station" on MP3.com. I’m into some jazzy torch songs these days. Give ‘em a listen! Updated as of December 30, 2001.

Rod's Reviews: I enjoy pontificating, so I've scrawled out several book and CD reviews on Amazon. Read 'em and weep. New reviews provided regularly!

Facts o' Rod: Stale and old, reflecting a time when I actually had a job. Please, when you think of me...be kind. Updated May 9, 2001.

Sundry Links: Wanna know what sites I surf? Didn't think so.
