Groovy's Cancer Journey - page 11
My partner, my son, my heart
Groovy adores Shay!
Groovy getting the best of care
March, 2005 marks Groovy's 1 year anniversary of going to the Cancer Treatment Unit at LSU SVM! Are we lucky to have them or what?!
Groovy's 7th birthday happens on April 16th, will feature cake, stupid pointy hats and a funky time!
February 20, 2005 - E-collar hell & Ignoring the human
Groovy is currently not speaking to me. When I call his name, he turns his head. More
than a week ago, Dreamy mounted him to hump him (a fave pastime of hers) and
when I pushed her off, her claw scraped down Groovy's radiated area (skin seems really thin there) and left a long scratch that he began licking immediately. I hoped it would heal, but it hasn't because Groovy keeps licking and licking it - it looks worse by the day. If I had a brain & enough guts, I would have put him in an e-collar immediately and it would have only taken a few days to heal. Now it will require more time. Presently, the area is very irritated and the thin scratch has turned into a larger, uglier, raw area (almost bleeding) that will continue to worsen if I don't keep his tongue away from it.  It is very tender, as when he travels through the dog door and the door brushes against him, it bothers him. Hence, conehead city. His expression says it all. He can easily get through the dog door with his giant e-collar on.
February 21 - The day after the wretched e-collar return
Okay, Groovy is speaking to me again. The smooches and tail wags have returned! He tossed and turned alot last night. When he walked around the room initially, Dreamy ran, Hans barked and Jack flipped over onto his back and froze, but things are closer to normal today.  No brute force has been inflicted upon anyone - by Groovy or the cone from hell. What resilience and remarkable spirit the Groove-man has been blessed with!  Today he will go for a walk to see his friends around the neighborhood, then we'll play ball & then I'll get the bubble machine gun out and he will chase peanut butter flavored bubbles until he is deliriously exhausted.
Who says a cone has to restrict you?
Healing...
