"I'm sometimes asked, 'Why do you spend so much of your time and money talking about kindness to animals when there is so much cruelty to men?' I answer,' I am working at the roots.' " ~ George T. Angell, reformer (1823-1909)

Groovy's April 21 checkup
I'm thrilled to say that Groovy's recheck was uneventful. No new lumps, nothing out of the ordinary - we like that! He got to visit with his favorite oncologist Dr. Reiman and his vet school pals! There was only the mention of a certain weim's excess baggage. Somehow, during all the celebratory cake, weenies and whipped cream, and with lots of help from me (yes it is all my fault), Groovy managed to paste on another 3 pounds in just 20 days. He weighs 100.4 pounds. Eeeek...chunky business...hubba chubba...pudge muffin...my funkalicious Groove-man is becoming plumpalicious.
Time to put the brakes on his insatiable craving for junk food. Ok, so back to regular amounts of "good for you" food, and lots of romping in the beautiful sunshine for a good measure of exercise, and before we know it he will be a leaner groovin' machine. Although I would rather eat glass than put him in a cone again, he will be sporting the e-collar until the scabby bare spot can heal from all his intense licking.
Next appointment is May 18.

At one time this bare spot was healed and in good condition, but all the scabs were caused by excessive licking. If he does not wear an e-collar then he will lick this until it bleeds and until there are scabs all over this area.

Here's why Groovy has to wear an e-collar.
This was taken on 4/21/05

What a difference 10 days makes! This was taken 5/1/05 - lots better! Also, Groovy weighs 98 pounds now!

The May 2005 scoop
Groovy's bare spot had completely healed, I was just keeping him in an e-collar for a bit longer so I could moisturize that area with lots of lotion and still keep him from licking it off. But wouldn't you know it, he burst thru the doggie door and busted his e-collar, then he tried to reach his bare spot to lick it and the jagged edge of the e-collar sliced him. Damn, damn, double damn, triple damn, hell! Just a few more days in that cone!
He's still watching his weight and getting lots of exercise.
Weight check: 98 pounds
