What the hell?!
Different day, different crap...eeeeeek! - 11/7/06
Come on, give us an everlovin' break why dontcha!  First of all the good stuff. The eye looks very well, and hopefully it won't stain on Thursday at his appointment. I think it's 99% healed, but we have to make sure it makes it over that other 1% hump. Now the potentially way sucky doo doo news...Groovy has a firm solid mass (palpable) near his penis area. Skin covering this area is bright red/purple like it's bruised. Aspirate indicates possible mast cells. His actual bloodwork was normal for the most part though, except for low EOS, and no mast cells showed up in the smear of the blood that was drawn from a different area than the mass. When lump was aspirated it was blood. This is where there were circulating mast cells. So, does this mean that his mast cell disease has finally gone systemic? Hope not, since that would be a death sentence. Maybe since there were mast cells from that lump but not from his other bloodwork, maybe that means that this is an actual tumor, and that it could be something that can be removed. The scary thing is that only 2 days ago I noticed a lump in that area, and a small bruise was on it. Today, however, it was much bigger and the discolored area was huge. We are grabbing our asses with both hands and going to LSU tomorrow. Will update when I know more...

THIS SUCKS SUPER HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where to begin? Groovy's eye is better at least, another eye recheck next week but all is going well with the eye. Groovy's cancer is back (mast cell tumor). At LSU on 11/8/06, his lump was aspirated, he had a cbc, blood chemistry panel, buffy coat, abdominal ultrasound, chest radiographs, and bone marrow aspirate. I noticed this mass for the first time last Sunday, but thought that part of his penis at the base may have been swollen, only tiny bruise. Monday not much change. Tuesday (pics posted) very bruised and much larger. Wednesday LSU for restaging (full workup). The area that was aspirated continued to ooze blood throughout the appointment. Heart & lungs were normal. Cytology of the mass revealed numerous cells consistent with a mast cell tumor. No abnormalities on ultrasound or radiographs. Ultrasound of the mass confirmed lymph node involvement indicating systemic disease. Bone marrow aspirate and buffy coat were both negative (good news). So...no surgery for now because of size and location of tumor. No way to get it all, and also would be hard to heal because of area, plus would have to then wait for it to heal before any radiation could be done on it, so surgery is a possibility if the tumor shrinks! Gameplan is for Groovy to get a CT scan done so they can prepare his radiation plan, this will be done next week, and his first of 18 radiation treatments will be given beginning next week. He is already on chemo as of 11/9/06. Meds are Leukeran and Prednisone, possibly CCNU later if cancer progresses. Let's see if I can try to sort all of this info out without getting it wrong or confusing myself...this is worse than last time because of the lymph node involvement, that is what indicates that it is systemic, but there is no proof yet that it has spread anywhere else. The chemo is for  the potential spread, to try to prevent spread. The radiation is for the local control of the actual tumor, which could hopefully shrink it. It may get smaller because of the Prednisone. He will have been on chemo for 1 week before beginning radiation, so depending on what happens day to day, that will help decide what course of action to take. If it could only shrink enough so that it could be taken out with surgery, that would be very cool. If I think of more crap that I forgot, then I will keep updating the webpages. Will update as things go forward. One very upsetting thing now is that the oncologists can give me no prognosis for Groovy. Just because the plan is for radiation for 7 weeks or chemo for 4 months doesn't mean anything as far as prognosis. Super suckage. To clarify, Groovy went thru radiation before for a different kind of cancer. No prognosis means every day is special.
Merry Friggin' Christmas!
I have lots more pics to post of Groovy & the pack and will post sooon, but now I'm gonna go spend some couch time with the big man. We began celebrating Christmas today! No better time than the present. They will be opening and eating all of their gifts over the next week, and they are elated about it. Currently, Groovy feels okay, on the outside, all is still normal, he eats well. A stronger chemo could change that though. Keeping him kind of quiet for a few days, so he doesn't do anything to aggravate that bastard tumor of his.
Groovy today 11/9/06
Groovy got a lot of rest today, but we also played quite a bit, but not hard. He seems to be in good spirits, but also seems less active today than he usually is, which worries me, but then I am paranoid anyway.
Resting...
Groovy after returning home from LSU, anesthesia still wearing off...
