LaserLite, line of site bore alignment tool.
Although the above picture demonstrates the application of this device in a steel stud application, it is also intended for use in wooden floor joist and standard wood construction. Use is quite simple. First, mark the center location of the proposed bore on the first three framing members. Second, punch the first and second holes. Third, install the LaserLite in the first hole, and align the laser dot on the mark that you made on the third member. Then simply punch and GO! As soon as the hole is punched and the punch removed, the laser dot shows the center of the next hole. Punch and GO, punch and GO. Hole lay out couldn't be easier, and when properly done, it couldn't be straighter.
