Geoffrey U. Uyehara is an expert in U.S.-Japanese negotiation, communication and management, with extensive years of professional experience.

Here are some of his representative accomplishments:

As a Director of International Business Development for the Economic Development Administration of the Government of Puerto Rico, he:

  • Designed and executed a new industrial strategy to attract Japanese and other Pacific Rim investors;
  • Planned and directed over 15 economic missions to Japan and other East Asian countries. These included the first U.S State Department endorsed joint federal/state government economic mission to Japan and Korea;
  • Served as principal liaison officer between the Governments of Japan and Puerto Rico during the second G-7 Conference.

 

He has consulted with such companies as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Toyota Motors Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors, aiding in the arrangment of their expansion plans in the U.S. He has also consulted with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Commerce with regard to the export of U.S. products to Japan and other East Asian countries.

Born of a Japanese father and English mother, he is a native speaker of both languages. He attended Keio University in Tokyo and received a Master of Science in Physics from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He is an accomplished public speaker, as well as an organizer of cross-cultural workshops relating to U.S.-Japanese trade.

In effect, he is a bridge between the "business culture" of Japan and that of the U.S.
