Over 20 of us marched proudly behind ADA and GWADA banners at the March for Women's Lives. Photos coming soon!

The Greater Washington chapter of Americans for Democratic Action, founded in 1947, advocates progressive policies on the national level and in our own communities.  We represent 1,800 ADA members and supporters in Washington D.C., suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia.

GWADA works throughout the Greater Washington area on issues including:  peace  •  civil rights  •  reproductive rights  •  environmental protection  •  universal health care  •  living wages  •  D.C. statehood  •  workers rights  •  public education  •  affordable housing  •  budget and tax policy  •  death penalty abolition  •  fighting poverty  •  preserving Social Security  •  gun control

Our activities:
We lobby local and national officials, organize educational and social events, conduct candidate forums and endorse candidates, testify at public hearings, work in coalition with single-issue groups and join their actions, and keep our members informed of what they can do to advance the liberal cause.

We are a participatory organization. All members are welcome at monthly board meetings where we discuss pressing issues, formulate policy, and decide on future actions. Members are also encouraged to run for seats on the board.

ADA national organization: All chapter members automatically become members of the national Americans for Democratic Action organization. ADA is the nation’s oldest independent liberal political organization, dedicated to individual liberty and building economic and social justice at home and abroad (see adaction.org for details).
