~*Lady Serade's Labyrinth*~
"Ah, the Labyrinth..."
The first words said when Sarah realized she was on her own to venture into this new world that she only believed were in fairy tales.

"Doesn't look that far." ~ "It's further than you think.  Time is short."
It is further than we thought because this is only one of many webpages devoted to this 1986 Jim Henson film, "Labyrinth".  What may not have been a box office smash hit like predicted, it has since been branded into the hearts of several young ladies and gentlemen that saw that film as a child.  Girls and guys developing what could have been their first crush on either star.  The talents of Grammy winner David Bowie and Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly starring as the slighly romantic interests.

As black and white as the screenplay may play, this story was about a young girl's baby brother being wished away by goblins.  Standing in the child's place was the very handsome Goblin King(played by David Bowie) offering her everything that she wanted, her dreams.  She hesitates to take it and instead takes up the challenge of Jareth's Labyrinth.  Having only 13 hours to solve it's riddles and get to the center, she gambles with never having her brother again and he will belong to the King.  She does succeed, after several diversions and a final plead from Jareth to stay with him, she denies all the fantasy.  She returns back to her mundane life and realizes that everyone has to grow up sometime, but it's still good to hold onto your imagination in the meantime.

Now, well into their adult lives, that same generation is exposing "Labyrinth" to the new generation. The magic of this film will not die!  Proof of that theory is depicted in the countless number of Fan-Fiction written, artwork drawn, photos manipulated and message boards of praise.

Keep in mind, the FanFic Awards are coming up.  Watch for updates at www.Marysia.com for nominees and winners.  There's your chance to read some excellent fan fiction written by very talented people in this community!
"You have no power over me."
The final words said to Jareth as he left her life forever...or did he?  What Jim Henson gave us was only what he could show.  What he didn't show was how the story really was so much more involved.  Even the novel by A.C.H. Smith written for the movie, had the two title character engaged in what could only be a "romance that could have been".  With words and even a kiss during the ballroom scene, Sarah was saddened as she defeated Jareth.

What is left is our own imaginations for this film.  Please explore what there is here to see as it's only one stepping stone of what lies within...

Other sites that hold dear to me, that are not mine:

Marysia.com ~ one of the first Labyrinth sites I stumbled upon years ago and have always admired.  She's got the best Labyrinth Fan Fiction archive around and it's kept up to date, frequently.  This is also the home of the Unofficial Labyrinth Message Board that I frequent along with several other amazing people.  It's a fantastic community that she has created and I'd recommend a look!

The Official David Bowie webpage ~ This is BowieNet.  An internet server and fan club started by the man himself.  This is where Mr. Bowie frequents and is often posting on the message boards while he sips his cup of coffee.

FuturesPast ~ This is the acting troupe that I am involved with that is based in South West Florida.  We do Medieval, Renaissance and Pirate Festivals as well as living re-enactments.  Featured on the Daily Show, this troupe is made of several talented people that all have day jobs!
