Memphis, Tennessee's Viktimized Karcass was a unique band that blended trippy space rock a la Hawkwind and Van Der Graaf Generator with home-fried improv-based Southern Rock And Roll. Chris Phinney (synthesizers), Roger Moneymaker (guitar), Robert Henson (bass), Richard Martin (bass) and Mike Jackson (synth) recorded several tapes during the late 1980s and early 90s. I count 28 VK tapes in my collection, including 30 Feet Tall, So Dim Its Safe, Skinned Alive, Burn Baby Burn, and Violence A Way Of Life.
When I visited Chris Phinney in June 1991 we got together with two other members of VK for a one-off recording session. I don't remember much about the session (too much smoke and beer), but the results are some really fine free improv ambient space experimental electronic music. The session was at Roger Moneymaker's house. Roger recorded and mixed the whole thing, and played synthesizer. Robert Henson played percussion. Phinney and I played synthesizers. I can vaguely remember one of those small red Roland analog synths. Oh well, maybe the other guys remember more than I do.
