Assault Gas Mask Bag
U. S. Army World War Two Assault Gas Mask Bag
Everyone expected the Second World War to be marked by the use of poison gas - yet somehow, it never happened.  When the U.S. Troops stormed ashore on June 6, 1944, most of the assault troops carried a rubberized waterproof bag with an assault gas mask.

I've never seen these used for anything else, and I imagine most of them were discarded soon after the landings.  But when I recently got a life size bag, I thought it would be a neat item to duplicate in 1/6th scale.

I realized that the "rubber" bag was actually rubber impregnated cloth - so this began by infusing some PLASTI-DIP into thin muslin fabric.  It gave an excellent consistency.  Then a few hours figuring out the odd pattern, some sewing, and hardware, and we're ready for the beach
Now if I can only make a gasmask...
