What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles, not much bigger than a human hair, into specific body points. These points are a means to access the meridians or the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body. The stimulation of these points allows the qi to flow smoothly to areas where it is needed, unblock stagnation and reduce excess.

Acupuncture stimulates the endocrine, autonomic nervous system and/or neurochemical systems, causing the release of  endorphins, dynorphins, enkephalins and/or corisol.

The sensations that one should feel from the stimulated needles are heaviness, distension, tingling or an electric sensation along the meridian. Most people experience acupuncture as a pleasant sensation. If there is any discomfort at all, it is usually mild.

All needles are sterile and disposable. They are never  reused.

What is TCM & How  Does it Work?

It is the practice of using acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, tuina and other techniques.

By re-establishing harmony and balancing the flow of Qi (energy) and function in the body, the patient is able to restore and maintain health. TCM gets to the root cause of the
problem. It doesn’t just treat the symptoms.

Safety

“One of the advantages of acupuncture is  that the incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures used for the same conditions”

The 1997 U.S. National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference
