COMPANY HISTORY From the beginning of paragliding, it seems, there have always been Nova Paragliders dotting the skies. Nova actually began in 1989, with Hannes Papesh at the helm of design. From the start, Hannes used the "unconventional" method of perfecting and verifying his designs by computer at Innsbruck University. Unheard of numbers of prototypes were produced and test flown. This exacting attention to detail resulted in almost immediate success. In late 1990, the legendary Nova Phantom arrived. The summer of 1991 saw pilots flying the Nova Phantom pushing paragliding to new limits. Hannes' computer designed, ultra smooth top sail and precise line plan had paid off. Nova was the wing to fly if you were looking for an ultra high performance paraglider. Paragliding was now finally coming of age, thanks to the Nova team, and the pilots who flew their wings. The year is 2001. Nova is most respected as a paraglider manufacturer, and purveyor of airfoil design in all class categories. The DHV 1 Phelix was built, right from the start, to emulate the lasting success of its older brother, the Philou. The new Argon is, without a doubt, at the top of its class in the DHV 2-3 category. Just released, the Nova Carbon is sure to set standards for the 1-2 class of wings. Few wings have had the staying power of the X-Act, which benefits those looking for a no worries weekender wing. For many, many years, Nova competition pilots have been on the winners podium. Certainly it is no secret that Hannes and the Nova team can produce the best comp wings anywhere. However, Nova has always been about supporting the whole sport, and not just the elite. Thus, starting in 2001, Nova will focus its efforts, and its considerable resources on the recreational pilot. What does this mean? Perhaps no more Nova sponsored pilots smiling on top of the competition podium, but more "regular folks" at the top of the stack! That's because Nova intends to concentrate on building even better wings for YOU, the pilots who don't get paid to fly! Sounds like an excellent idea!! QUALITY!! Designing and building paragliders is a very responsible job. Human lives depend upon it! Nova employs highly experienced test pilots to ensure it can meet the most demanding expectations placed upon its paraglider design. Only the best and strongest materials are used by Nova in their production. Nova wants to offer the its clients only the best fabric on the market. That's why they don't rely upon measurements from the manufacturer, but carry out their own materials test...like exposing different fabric colors to Australian Outback desert sun to find the most durable. Likewise, the finest lines are used, and only after being tested and re-tested by Nova. But materials alone do not a quality glider make! Nova owns the factory where its gliders are sewn. Even though each wing is sewn by hand, tolerances are very precise. And since humans are not machines, each wing is put through a series of checks and rechecks during production. This ensures that you, the Nova customer, ultimately receives only the highest quality product. Top Sail: Carrington 1080N: Very durable with very low porosity. Bottom Sail: Porché light soft: Very tight with a soft hand. Ribs/Profile: Carrington Pararib 1088: Extremely strong with low stretch. Diagonal ribs: Porché light hard: A very light, low stretch fabric. Unloaded rib: Unitika: Light and flexible fabric. Such attention to detail, direct manufacturing supervision, and quality components ensure your Nova glider will serve you well for years to come. It's no surprise that Nova has one of the strongest customer loyalty followings in the industry. PHELIX (DHV 1/AFNOR STD) THE NOVA PHELIX: A WING YOU WON'T OUT GROW! An unheard of number of prototypes went into making the Phelix just right. No less than 24 individual prototypes were designed, sewn, and tested before the Phelix was introduced. The result is what you have today: A performance oriented paraglider that you can literally take your first training flights on....and keep flying right on through to serious cross country adventures. All the while, enjoying a wing which offers exceptional passive safety characteristics and a beautiful, clean profile. When it comes to safe, recreational flying, the Phelix is as good as it gets!

MARK ON HIS CARBON AT SARANKOT, NEPAL. LOOK OUT VULTURES! THE CARBON IS THE REFERENCE CROSS COUNTY WING! OK, fellow Para-Junkies. I'm going to take a break from this third person web page copy writing to tell you about the CARBON. If you are looking for a new second wing, this is it! Look no further. You're reading about the best one right now. This is the wing I took to Nepal with me, and it received heaps of praise from the other pilots flying around Pokara. The CARBON handled the local, sometimes ratty, thermals with elegance; offering VERY nice feed back through the brakes. At times I was even out thermalling the Griffin vultures! I can say that the glide is no less than surprising, making for enjoyable XC flying. Another big plus was its top speed, and glide on full bar! It left many of my fellow flyers wondering if I wasn't actually flying a comp wing! One pilot actually sought to verify the CARBON'S DHV 1-2 rating by physically checking the certification patch when I landed! So, am I trying to sell you a paraglider? Of course...but I'm trying to sell you a VERY NICE paraglider! Please keep in mind that the CARBON is not appropriate as a first wing. It is a high performance DHV 1-2, suitable for pilots who have at least 10-20 hours of flight time. Experienced pilots will find the CARBON'S superb XC performance and "no worries" security a breath of fresh air. Second wing buyers will need to look no further. The CARBON will carry them as far as their dreams can take them....and beyond. Just a plain great wing. Please give me a call if you have any questions about the Carbon ------- Mark CARBON SPECIFICATIONS
