SUP'AIR HARNESSES:
Mr. Sup'Air himself, Pierre Bouilloux with his wife and daughter, at the Coupe Icare! Sup'Air is the recognized world wide leader for paragliding harness design and manufacture. After visiting the company headquarters in Annecy, France, we were convinced that these were the kind of people we wanted to do business with. Company owner, founder, and world champion pilot Pierre Bouilloux is intimately involved with testing and design (Mr. Bouilloux's triangle X/C flights and vol-bivouac flights in the French Alps and Pyrenees are legendary). He personally ensures that Sup'Air harnesses are always on the industry cutting edge. Across the pond in Glen Cove, New York, US importer Philippe Renaudin is in constant contact with Sup'Air. He makes frequent trips to Annecy, ensuring his customers here in the USA receive the very latest products that Sup'Air has to offer! The Bump'Air back protector replaces the many times proven "Mousse Bag". Even better than its predecessor, the Bump'Air was superior to even the Cygnus airbag in DHV testing. Other items include the Safe-T-Bar anti slide strap, and a new speed system routing (Auto Stable Accelerator or ASA system), a beautifully integrated side mounted reserve system, and the Evolution Top harness. As always, Sup'Air quality and workmanship are second to none.
The distinctive "Green Triangle" logo (representing Pierre's pursuit of triangle flight records) can be seen the world over. From Claire & Zebulon's attempt to fly the highest peaks to your own local hill. Discover what pilots everywhere already know....you can't go wrong with Sup'Air. All Sup'Air harnesses come with the same basic geometry. This geometry is called the Auto Balance System or ABS. It is now found on nearly every harness made, and was invented by Sup'Air. This geometry provides the best compromise of stability and freedom of movement available today. As you move up the Sup'Air Harness line from the Evolution/Moovy to the Profeel to the Cocoon, you gain increasing adjustability and features. These features usually are in the form of side protection (Profeel) or shell design (Profeel and Cocoon). The 2000 Evolution and Profeel series give you the option of where you would like your reserve parachute mounted. It's easy to swap them out if you decide to change positions later. Unless mentioned, all harnesses purchased the Sup'air USA dealer network include auto buckles, ASA speed system, Safe-T-System buckles, twist lock carabiners, and the new 20cm Bump'Air back protector. These days, the trend in Europe is to buy a harness that fits pretty snug about your backside. This allows you to use you harness to its full capability when controlling the wing. A loose fitting harness can cause the pilot to induce spurious inputs to the wing during turbulent conditions. The following is a guide to ordering your Sup'Air harness. S = 90-145 lbs M = 145-185 lbs L = 185-225 lbs XL & XXL = 225 lbs and over or exceptionally tall. Please keep in mind that if you are narrow waisted, you may fit quite comfortably in a smaller size, and vice versa. You may also have a very short torso or exceptionally long legs, and have found the "everyperson" sizing never seems to work for you. If there is any doubt, discuss your concerns with us, and we'll find you the size that best fits.
The basic harness that goes beyond the other basic harnesses! A new design for 2001 means that the TOP, FRONT and REAR harnesses are interchangeable! If you decide down the line that you want a new reserve position, simply purchase the container you want and swap it out! Hey, don't let the good price fool you! These gems offer goodies found only on higher priced models. Like an adjustable seat extension, Cordura fabric, neoprene reserve containers, and easy lean adjust. Sizes are S, M, & L. EVOLUTION TOP MOUNT: Mark's personal harness. The reserve is mounted high on the back between the shoulder blades. The reserve container itself is beautifully constructed of neoprene. The handle is readily accessible on the shoulder strap, and can easily be moved to either the left or right. There is even a "double backup" handle above the main handle, should the main get blown off and become hard to reach in the emergency. The shell has two very easy to reach zipper pockets on the side, and a generous storage pocket. Color is variable with size. Quality is exceptional! wt=3700g
Future pilot Kira Sahaida checks out the "Evo Top"!
EVOLUTION SIDE MOUNT: Originally created in response to a demand in the German/Austrian marketplace, the EVO SIDE has found a loyal following here in the USA as well. A wonderfully integrated side mount container made of neoprene, this is a departure from those old style containers that looked like they were tacked on as an afterthought! This container offers the shortest handle to reserve length available. Deployment motion is a natural dropping of the hand to the side. However, this harness' storage pocket (as should all side mounts) should be strategically packed to balance the weight of the reserve. Color varies between sizes. As always, superb workmanship! wt=3650g EVOLUTION FRONT: This year's Evo Ventral (Front) incorporates the new floating front container. The container attatches directly to the carabiners and is compressible. This helps move the reserve out of the way for easier weight shift. Also, the 2001 container has a velcro dash built into the top that comes with a zippered and padded flap that closes when you are not flying. Tres slick! EVOLUTION REAR: The popular and proven rear mount for those who prefer it.
Sup'Air's top of the line, no holds barred harness series. The Profeel models boast extra side protection (included) in the form of large (about 11 inches diameter) foam and hard plastic shields. An additional lower back adjustment is added for even more comfort. Backaches in flight??? This is your harness!! The Profeel doesn't stop there. A superior shell is also part of the bargain. Extra storage space, zippered side pockets: it's all there on the Profeel. Sizes are S, M, L, XL, & XXL PROFEEL CROSS COUNTRY: The best compromise for those pilots looking to get into competitons, but also want the versitility of the Profeel series. The X-C also gives the recreational pilot a sleek well protected and super comfortable harness ideal for all conditions. Reserve is the newest bottom mount design. Comes with speed stirrup and foot rest, balast pocket, and 17cm Bump'Air. A generous, aerodynamic rear pocket rounds out this beauty. PROFEEL VENTRAL: An exceptionally comfortable flying chair!! Your reserve is mounted in front of you and in easy reach with either hand. Weight shift ability is increased with Sup'Air's new compressible reserve container. When not in use, the little roll acts as an instrument dashboard! Huge storage pocket. Please call for available colors. wt=3850g PROFEEL SIDE: All of the comfort and features that you have come to expect from the Profeel series, but with a beautifully integrated neoprene side mount reserve system. This system offers the shortest handle to diaper distance on the market. Deployment motion is a very natural dropping of the hand to the side. However, this harness' storage pocket (as with all side mounts) should be strategically packed to balance the weight of the reserve. Please call for available colors. wt=3700g. NOTE, Due to the introduction of the Profeel X-C, the side version will be available as a special order item only after July 1, 2001. PROFEEL TOP/REAR: All of the same great features above, but with the ever popular choice of the Top Mounted or Rear Mounted reserve positions.
The Cocoon is a harness for competitors, and is made to fly in either the upright or reclined position. The harness accomplishes this by having the shell divided into an upper and lower portion. As you move the harness from the upright to reclined position, a portion of the upper slides into the lower half. A padded back strap at the bottom of the upper shell provides in flight adjustable back support. The Cocoon looks more like a sleek sculpture than a paragliding harness. A majority of the harness shell is neoprene, providing the lowest possible drag coeffcient....a must for competitors looking for every advantage. The new bottom mount reserve allows for quick access and better weight distribution. Two easily accessible side pockets, and a modest storage compartment round out this amazing harness. Again, this is a high performance harness for competitors only. COCOON STANDARD: Sup'Air's sleekest harness offers a 10cm foam and Twinex anti penetration protection. Comes with cockpit instrument console/3.5kg ballast carrier and integrated speed strap foot stirrup. wt=6500g
MOOVY: Don't pass this one by!! The Moovy was originally intended as a school harness, and has a removable side mounted reserve container. What's more, the container can now be switched to either side of the harness!! Why it was for schools, we can't figure out...because the Moovy has all of the features found on the Evolution Series. Like an ASA accelerator linkage, seat extension, Bump'Air, Safe-T-System leg loops and automatic buckles. Granted, your reserve container is not as sleek as the Evo Side, but for almost $100 less, you really can't go wrong!! Great for pilots on a budget, however the Moovy will keep anyone happy for years to come. wt=3500g RANDONNEUSE: This is on the lighter side of the Sup'Air line, and has been trimmed down to the minimum. To save weight, Sup'Air eliminated the extras found on many of its harnesses. This means basic alloy "push through" buckles (no Safe-T-System), no ASA accelerator, no reserve container, and no back protection (but will accept 17cm Bump'Air). Another weight saving measure was to use an aircraft alloy/fiberglass honeycomb seatboard instead of a wood one. The weight savings on this harness is significant. The Randonneuse weighs in at only 1800g, nearly 2kg lighter than an Evolution model!! The harness shell includes a generous storage pocket should an optional back protector be fitted. A front mount reserve container can also be purchased separately. Great for back pack trips. Versatile enough to be your everyday harness. ALTIPLUME: 1200 grams. No back protector (Cygnus Air Bag an Option) A light harness for those who prefer the positive weight shift of a seat board style harness. A basic back pocket and reserve sleeves are included. Front mount reserve an option. RADICALE: The name says it all. 600 grams of light weight Sup'Air performance. (12cm or 17 cm back protection an option). Very basic for the light weigh fanatics!
FREESTYLE PULL DOWN APEX RESERVE: The best PDA reserve available. All Sup'Air reserves now come with the "H" type risers. The Freestyle is certified by the French ACPUL system, and is tested at terminal velocity. The PDA has been optimized to give the pilot the optimal combination of fast opening time and smooth descent. NOTE new lighter weight reserves!! Four sizes are available:
***** SUP'AIR SUMMER WEIGHT FLIGHT SUIT: "Oh please no, please not the orange one..." Karin was heard to moan at the Sup'Air shop in Annecy as Mark tried on the orange and black flight suit. Oh, but it looks sooo good...."Je suis Mouissier de L'Orange!" he said as he madly bounced around the shop. "Le fou feu Americain" the shop girl thought. Hey, a guy can't please his wife ALL the time.... I guess Mr. Bouilloux listened to Karin, 'cause they don't make orange any more. The new suit has an improved version of the Teflon coated Supplex Cordura (highly water resistant, yet breathable), an improved fit, and external heel straps to keep it all in place when you're flying. The suit is fully lined with a "Supplex" like material, and the collar is fleece lined for comfort. The side zippers go from the ankles to the armpits for easy entry. There is a central zipper down the front. This flight suit features 4 pockets, including a specialized radio pocket/antenna keeper, and a new "stash pocket". Vario loops on the thigh and a waist draw string round out this well made suit, which is ready for your next adventure! The Sup'Air fight suit is an essential piece of gear for extended cross country flights, where the relentless wind and cold at altitude....even in the summer....saps your strength. Colors available are marine blue/black (nice), red/black (VERY nice), and black/cream. Custom colors are available for an extra charge (wait time is about 6 weeks). Sizes: S, M, L, XL, & XXL. To give you an idea, Mark is 6 ft tall / 180 lbs and uses an XXL (because of his ape arms... normally an XL would have been fine). A good guess would be to order your normal T-shirt size. GRAND TOURISME paraglider sack: Not so long ago, the bag that you got to carry your paraglider in was no better than the duffle bag you received free with a cologne purchase! Maybe your current pack is falling apart, or just won't hold your new harness. This is a HUGE backpack and is big enough to carry your gear and then some (180 liters volume). Despite its size, it is still able to fold down quite small. Compression straps keep smaller loads together. The lid pocket can accommodate boots, books, Red Bull, or whatever. Mesh front pocket for other goodies. Colors vary, but are usually some combination of gray, blue, teal, and red. SACK LIGHT: This is the glider sack that is carrying the gear of Claire Bernier and Zebulon Roche as they continue their quest to tandem paraglide the 7 highest continental summits! This is a special sack made from the same material as the flight suits and sport jacket. The narrow volume provides excellent load distribution. has netted side pockets, a lid pocket, and ice axe loop. For pilots traveling with the bare minimum. 75 liter capacity. wt=650g. Color is red/black. COCKPIT BALLAST / INSTRUMENT CONSOLE: A beautiful neoprene pouch which easily attaches to the harness carabiners, (or mates with the two small straps on later model Sup'Air harnesses). A lightweight but sturdy bag carries 3 liters of ballast water. The top of the pouch acts as an instrument dash. Mounts in front of the pilot. Not for use with a front mount reserve system. TWIST LOCK PARAGLIDING CARABINERS: Redesigned for 2000! These are specifically engineered for paragliding. The new system requires a slight downward pressure to release the gate along with the twist, making it even safer than before! The twist lock system is virtually "idiot proof". Say no more...the best! INSTRUMENT CARRIERS: Protect your investment! Specially designed neoprene carries for your GPS and Vario keep your baby safe while mounting it at the correct viewing angle. VERY nice quality! SUP'AIRCOM HEADSET: OK, I'm going to be frank here. We've tried those "other" headsets, both generations of 'em. You know the ones I'm talking about...in the back of The Magazine for $100 or more. The ones with about 4 wires coming out of them....that make you look "BORG" enough to frighten Jean Luc Piccard himself. We've tried them, and they both needed repair soon after we bought them. They are a pain in the bumper to hook up on launch, and the plugs are always popping out of my radio jack, leaving me out of touch in the air. For this reason alone, I am VERY happy that Philippe has finally decided to bring the SUP'AIRCOM headset over from France. This is a very sturdy, very simple device. It transmits and receives through one microphone mounted in your helmet next to your ear. The clarity is easily comparable to those "other" headsets. Transmissions are keyed in via a pushbutton. Voila! Two wires instead of four. Price is $85. The choice is yours. I know which one I'd spend my money on....and it's not just because we sell Sup'Air. The SUP'AIRCOM is flat out a better product. GPS AND VARIO HOLDERS: Padded instrument support. Very good build quality with separate models for Vario and GPS. Velcro flaps secure holder to the harness, and they have a limited degree of tilt adjustment. check out these links for even more info
