THE TIMING TOOL

For use on Harley Davidson Motorcycles

If you're like most of us who own a Harley, you get as much pleasure out of working on your bike as you do riding it. There are a lot of good reasons for knowing how to keep your bike running properly and when it comes down to doing things like tune ups and oil changes, why pay a shop the bucks to do the work that you can do yourself.

Sooner or later your going to want to check the ignition timing on your scooter. Untill now this has been one of those jobs that could be a big pain, due to the mess that's always left when your done. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to experience this for yourself, I'll explain the typical timing procedure.

You've hooked up the timing light and replaced the timing plug with the clear plastic plug that you got at the Harley shop. The reason for using this plug is that it keeps the oil in the machine and not on you. As a lot of you know, the plug doesn't work. When you aim the timing light into the clear plug, the light just reflects off of the outside of the plug and you can't see anything else. Untill now the only option you had was to remove the plastic plug and point the timing light directly into the timing hole. This works fine as far as being able to see the timing marks but now you have a new problem to deal with. There is always a little oil that's in the bottom of the motor. When you remove the plastic plug, you give this oil someplace to go. In no time at all you, the timing light and the left side of your bike is covered in oil. You've gotten the job done but in doing so you've created a potentially dangerous situation for yourself and your work area and you end up spending a lot of extra time cleaning up the bike, your tools, the work area and yourself.

THE TIMING TOOL eliminates all of the problems mentioned above. It's easy to use and works on all of Harley Davidson's V-Twin motors. It can be used over and over again and will prove to be a worthwhile addition to your toolbox.
