Homeland's Changzhou Project
Homeland Children's Foundation, Inc.
Changzhou Project, 2001
HOMELAND MARKETPLACE
In November, 2000, Nancy Reffsin and Pamela Thomas met with Director Chen at the Changzhou Children's Welfare Institute in Jiangsu Province, China.  We toured the facilities, visited the children and caregivers, and discussed ways to work together to improve the conditions in the orphanage for the benefit of the children. The director asked us for help in renovating a room for the toddlers.  The existing facility was dark, and the old chipped ceramic tile floor presented a safety hazard to little ones taking their first steps. The few walkers lying there were old and broken. The caregivers were wishing for a safe, clean environment for the toddlers to play in. We agreed and made an immediate commitment to the project.

Sun Lu and Dr. Hong gathered estimates, hired local workers, and sent in a team to renovate the room.  When they saw that the infant rooms had the same cold, hard tile flooring, they extended the project to include replacing them.

The transformation included replacing all the flooring in the infant and toddler facilities with new hardwood floors, cleaning the walls, and installing brand new walkers, high chairs, and other children's furnishings.  This entire project cost approximately $1200.00 US.  All materials and labor were secured locally in Changzhou. We want to thank everyone who contributed donations for this project, who bought items from the Homeland Marketplace, or who used our translation service.  This is your project, and you have made a great difference in the lives of the children living in the Changzhou orphanage!

Thank You Letter from the Changzhou Orphanage
To Homeland Children's Foundation,

Thank you very much for your concern and support to our Children Welfare Institute and for renovation of childrens' rooms.  After renovation, it is not only much more beautiful than before, but also helpful to children's activities, because the new hard wood floor is not slippery, is more easier to keep clean, is more elastic and won't hurt the children when they fall down.  Children are having much more activities now than before. To better remember your help, we put a memory board on the wall with the name of Homeland Children's Foundation. Welcome to China, welcome to Changzhou, sharing the fun with our children.

Thanks to your hard work for long time, many children, especially special needs children went into American families and found true love through your efforts.  Please let us represent all these children and express our gratitude to your effort.

We sincerely hope that we can have more cooperation with you and work together with you for children's happiness.
