This is the NEW Home for OASIS,TROUPE OASIS and OASIS OF COLOR Honors: The World Online Championships for Middle Eastern Dance

This online event, started in 2001 and sponsored by BRANDON'S OASIS of Washington, DC, is an annual online voting competition that represents 64 of the best artists of bellydance and Middle Eastern dance as well as 32 of the best Middle Eastern and bellydance troupes that represent the art form and their presence on the World Wide Web. Voters and fans of bellydance from all over the globe help decide the winners and recieve donations to their favorite charity. This is the 4th year for Oasis and the 3rd year for Troupe Oasis.

******The Nomination Process*******

From November through January, the process is taken, through research and feedback from voters and websurfers related to bellydance and other forms of Middle Eastern dancing to nominate 64 indiviual bellydancers and 48 bellydance troupes and soloists for Oasis of Color.

Depending on results from the previous year(s), bellydancers earn re-nominations. This process is extended to any performer of this art around the world. Once those have been selected, a draw is held to place bellydancers into 4 groups of 16 (in Oasis) and 4 groups of 8 (in Troupe Oasis and Oasis of Color).

FOR OASIS/TROUPE OASIS/OASIS OF COLOR, there will be 4 ''ballots'' of belltdancers or troupes to vote for to advance to the next monthly round until there is a Final Four (4 bellydancers/troupes remaining, 1 winner for each ballot). Voters will eliminate the foeld to 2, and those finalists will represent the Finals. All who make it to the final Four will have donations made to the charity/organization of their choice, courtesy

Criteria for extending a bellydancer/troupe an Oasis nomination ranges from the following: Website (Design, Information, Photo or Video Representations, Overall Con-

tent, etc.), Live and/or Videographies (Instructional or Performance), Geographical Locale, Voter and Artist Feedback, Those Whose Efforts Had Significant Impact or Recognition In a 12-Month Period, Year(s) Dedicated to One's Profession, Student Feedback, as well as Other Intangibles Involved. Nominations are open to female AND male performers of bellydance and/or any for of Middle Eastern dance.

There are NO SEEDS in each bracket. All bellydancers are equals. There is NO PURCHASE or fee for an Oasis,Troupe Oasis or Oasis of Color nomination. Donations for each Final Four in 2006 are as follows:

*Oasis winner:$350/Oasis of Color Winner:$200/Troupe Oasis Winner:$250

The overall purpose and goal for Oasis and Troupe Oasis is for those who appreciate, watch and view on video or live, and participate in the art form themselves to share their voices to celebrate and appreciate those who have given so much to the profession and the bellydance community as a whole.
