we have been helping birds find homes since 1976
our first goal is to help people work out the problems they are having with the birds in their life and help them to understand what living with birds is all about. If they are not able to keep their birds, we will find the best home possible for them.
PLEASE EMAIL US if you know about a bird or birds who need help.
Please also feel free to contact if you just need some help understanding the birds.

Where were you when you fell in love with birds? For as long as I can remember, I have loved birds. I would often stop along the road and just watch flocks of birds flying....
My MOMENT came when I was 17 yrs old and walked into my families dining room. Placed in the center of our table was what looked like a box covered with a blanket. A gift, my parents explained from dear friends of the family. I pulled the blanket aside, and inside the cage was Ghandie, an Alexandrine Ringneck Parakeet.
It was love at first sight. Love was perched on my hand and in my heart from that day forward.
Thank you Ghandie, Mom, Dad, Chester and Ann....... it is because of all those involved that I find myself, today, almost 28 yrs later still in love with these wonderful creatures and my life directed towards helping them and those who love them.

WILL THE RESCUE GROUP YOU CONTACT HELP YOU?????
Everyone needs help now and again. People who help animals are no different. Several years ago, because of medical problems I wasn't able to rush to a rescue call we had received. I called a local group who gave me the name of a woman who has worked with them. I called her. I knew she lived within 20 minutes of this bird. The bird I needed help with was a little parakeet who needed medical attention. From experience, without even seeing the bird, I guessed the bill would be over $150. Well, I was told by this person "doreen, parakeets are a $9.99 special at the pet shop.....i'm sure the vet bill was anywhere between $150.00-$200.00.....I think u overstepped your boundaries when u asked me to do this task"
Please remember, that a bird in need doesn't care how much YOU think it can be bought for, it cares if YOU CARE. Please help. Don't look at the DOLLAR SIGNS in the petshops. Look at the eyes of the bird.
PS. Liitle BlueBerries bill is now over $200. She had to have her foot removed, she has stiches and a small cast and has 1 re-check and needs several more in the weeks to come.
PLEASE REMEMBER--- RESCUERS DO THIS OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF THEIR HEARTS. I DON'T MAKE MONEY WHEN I HELP BIRDS and OFTEN IT COSTS ME A GREAT DEAL. If you know a rescuer, ask how you can help, or better yet, just send them a small token of appreciation. A credit at the vet, the feed store, a toy company that they use, help THEM help the birds. If you can't, let someone know you appreciate that THEY DO !! thank you

This is Cookie. She is at least 24 yrs old. Her former owner walked into a pet store and left her. She didn't tell the staff her name or anything about her except her possible age. The staff at the store knew she was special and asked if we would adopt her. HOW could we refuse.... Cookie thinks like is perfect IF you can snuggle inside someones shirt and stay there for hours !! She also loves snuggling in bed.. BUT we are careful NEVER to fall asleep with a bird... you can roll over and crush them !!!

BELOW: In early July 2004, a long time friend called me to tell me that an Amazon had been dumped at a pet store. He appeared to have large tumors on his face and his eyes were almost closed over. I went that night to get him. The man who dumped him at the shop left no information. The birds name, how long he had been sick, had he been with other birds- nothing. We took him home. We named him Forest. Our first reaction was that he had a chronic, VERY bad sinus problem. The first visit to the vet was two days later. They were able to take a small amount of "stuff" (not exactly puss.... but tissue like) out. They were not sure what it was an sent it out for a biopsy. It came back as a chronic inflammation, though not conclusive. Surgery was scheduled. Sadly, while the wonderful doctors were able to remove most of the tumor like growth, Forest was not strong enough and died several hours after surgery.

(below) This is Dizzy Izzy. She was only about 6 months old when she climbed on a macaw cage. The macaw grabbed her by her beak and cracked it open. She was rushed to the Avian Animal Hospital where the Dr. operated on her, putting two wires into her beak to close the opening. She has only a dent in her beak to show what happened to her. She is a snuggly lovable bird......

This is Corey. Corey is a Timneh African Grey, the smaller of the two popular kinds of Greys. A few years ago Corey started to pick his feathers. While the EXACT reason that each bird picks often goes unknown, from the info we got, Corey was just plain UNHAPPY in his last home. His owner at the time was so unhappy about his plucking that he wanted him put to sleep, the next answer was to send him to a breeder... THAT isn't the answer.....LUCKLY for him AND us, she settled with dropping him at a pet store and the wonderful people there called me.
Corey has learned over a dozen new words, whistles tunes, when you ask him if he is crazy-- HE BOBS HIS HEAD UP AND DOWN...LOL. He also LOVES his swing....... he spends much time swinging and whistling to all around.
How sad this story could have been if the owner had followed up on her plans and put him to sleep! The picture of him fuzzy is when he first came in, the second is a few years ago.. he looks even better now ! We will update pictures soon.
