WEEK 44 - Newport News, VA

My Forty Fourth week - Newport News, VA.

Newport News is home to the Mariners Museum located behind me. Lots of ship mast heads and ship minatures.

One of the big feature items are relics from the Civil War Iron Clad ship the Monitor. Here is the propeller from the ship and the 11" guns are being preserved on site here.

This statue of Leif Ericksen was really impressive. Its over 16' tall and made of bronze.

Here is one of the minture dioramas on display at the museum. This one is of a shipyard located in Jamestown, VA.

This statue was dedicated to the founder who built the first ship yard and many of the local parks.

This impressive statue of a lion is one of 4 guarding each end of a bridge crossing a waterway inlet from the Chesapeake Bay.
