There's a beautifully illustrated downloadable ebook of Russian Folk Tales that was first printed in 1903! The hard copy is no longer in print, but this is an electronic copy of the book. You can find it at http://www/uthrive.net

subject: Traditional ceremonies in the United States

I'm looking for other Slavic-Americans that are interested in reviving and performing traditional, Slavic, Pagan ceremonies in the United States. I am in Minnesota, but would be willing to collaborate by phone or email, as well. I am very motivated and would love to hear from anyone who shares this vision.

Hi there, Im Croatian and ive always found it difficult to find information on our pre christian religion. Needless to say, I found this site very informative. Quick question: is there any "pagan" significance to traditional Croatian kolo? I also have a couple more superstitions from my family (from Livno in Bosna) -never step over somebody when they are lying down, it provokes their near death (if you do, walk right back over the other way) -whistling outloud by yourself invokes bad spirits -if youre having your coffee grinds (turkish coffee) read and the fortune is bad, you must wash the grinds away with sweetened milk -and the reason why you shouldnt sit at the corner of the table is because you will never get married if you do (thats a big one for my mama). well this is a little long but I really had fun with this page. thanks

Hi,... I'm a Slav from Australia. I have found this site very interesting even if it's too Russo-centric for my liking. Nothing against those brothers Slavs. I would like to see more Balkan orientated pagan beliefs on your site though, especially from Croatia and Bosnia. I'm no pagan but I do like this site as a part of the Slavic Meta Narrative and in these post communist and post christian times it serves a very good purpose. Sure, all Slavic beliefs came from the same oevre however these beliefs did diverge at some point which is why I'm interested in finding out more about ancient Croatian and Bosnian beliefs prior to the advent of christianity and islam. I have read that the ancient Croats may have been heretical Aryan Christians upon arriving in the Balkans but other sources allude to the fact that ancient Croatian Kings/Dukes did have very clear pagan beliefs. I guess learning about the past is one way to understand the present which is why I'm so curious to know more. In my family there are many instances of superstitions that pre-date christianity. Having grown up on a farm I would like to share one pro-verb my father shares with me, "What the Lord gives to me, I give back to the earth!" In spite of that I am not personally religious or spritual but I can appreciate it's sentiment. From what I read, the ancient Slavs were very connected to the earth and it's something that is still true of them today and I don't need paganism to understand that. Anyway,... different strokes for different folks. Sretno!

subject: the old ways

I'm 100% Carpatho-Rusyn, but my grandparents (who were born in Europe) didn't really teach my parents a great deal of the old folklore and mythologies and used old Slavonic to keep secrets. I just wanted to show my appreciation for all the hard work that must have went into this site and for the sheer magnitude of information contained here. I've been looking into and trying to study the old traditions, but comprehensive lists that are reliable are fairly hard to find. Thank you very much.

subject: Hello from Russia and about BLINY

I am from Russia (St.Petersburg) and I study the slavonic paganism at the University (historic department), so if someone wants to discuss this subject? you can connect me/ By the way to ANNA asking about bliny - of course thi tradition is connected with Maslenitsa - the spring pagan celebration in wich the bliny (a kind of pancakes)simbolized the sun. We still celebrate Maslenitsa and it is folloewd by the Christian Lent.

subject: incubus

Warm wishes and respect to you. I am not a wiccan, but very curious about the wiccan experience and I have been doing a lot of online research in this field. specially as it relates to having sex or an orgy with the incubus. My educational background is in the sciences so I want to test and experience everything. I would like to experience an orgy or individual sex with incubus or incubi. I hope my terminology is correct. If not please let me know as I am teachable. I do not own any wiccan devices to perform an incantation or evocation. I am hoping you will teach me how to perform a ritual with items I will have around the home. I am an expert in essential oils and have many medicinal quality oils, plus beautiful essential oil candles of high quality. I have read a couple of online articles and tried the suggestions written but nothing has happened. Due to my own error I am sure. I am highly sexual - liking men and the male sex organ. I also am willingly seeking this incubus experience which I thought might be attractive to these spirits? I will be a willing sexual partner. What can I do? Is there any symbology that I can find online and use to assist this experience? And is this really possible or is it just a myth? If you are able to assist me I am thankful. I know this must take time away from your other activities - I want you to know that I really and very much appreciate you time and energy spent helping me. Warm regards and kind thoughts. Jadey

subject: Incubi

Not to be rude, but, would you call a flower shop to find a pharmacist to ask him how to make a fondant icing? Then why ask a Wiccan, on a specifically non-Wiccan site about how to do something that has nothing to do with Wicca? Orgies are not part of the Wiccan religion, especially not demonic ones. People who tell you otherwise obviously know nothing about the religion. And Slavic Witches are most definitely NOT Wiccan. The Incubus is generally a fantastical being created from one's own subconscious during certain states of sleep paralysis. There may be something more sinister out there, but the majority of Incubi are medically and psychologically explainable.

I'am a Pagan and may take up Slavianstvo as my religion in my life.I belive we need to set up a Pagan Theocratic state with Slavianstvo as head religion.Sexual relationships between family members is not a crime, because a brother and sister or cousin and cousin or other, and is not incest,I mean look at the gods and goddesses.I'am sick and tried of the Christians say it wrong and it's not right to do,and I say FUCK OFF CHRISTIANS!

I never expected to feel drawn to this kind of Paganism because while my ancestors are 100 percent Slavic (Russian and Ukranian) I'd figured their being Jewish exempted me from the draw. I'm surprised and pleased to find that it resonates so well with me.

I'm glad you posted. Unfortunately, Slavic Heathenism suffers the same fate as Asatru in attracting ignorant, ethno-centric anti-semites. I am the webmistress of this site and my grandfather was a Byelorussian Jew. My mother's side of the family was also Slavic, but Christian. In studying the foods, languages, myths, etc. of Slavic peoples I have seen remarkable similarities with those of the Jewish peoples. I mean, blintzes and latke's? c'mon! For an interesting article about the Khazar origins of Eastern-European Jews see http://www.khazaria.com/khazardiaspora.html

subject: Kosak recreation group

Hail! I would like you to list that there is a Kosak (Cossack) recreation/living history group based in North Texas. We perform at many "Ren Fairs" in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. We ARE NOT SCA, but a real living history group that also fights with live blade (real Kosak sabres that are blunted, but real) in battle and duels. I present a living history talk and present an open view of the the Kosak wars of the 17th Century. We have a working Kolduna and I officiate as a Banita Ataman and Volkhvy. We have a replica 17th Polish/Ukrainian inn at the four winds site that we own and use as a training site for new Kosaky, both male and female on the last Sunday of every month. I do prefer that new members e-mail before attending.
