The TWA flight 800 disaster, on July 17, 1996, took the lives of 230 people and shatterd the lives of over a thousand surviving family members. The effects of this event touched the hearts of people around the world and continue to have an impact on the Long Island community and on those who selflessly came to our shores to aid in what has become a historic recovery effort. Their hard work and personal dedication were a testament to the strength and kindness of the human spirit. The Smith Point International Memorial will be a year round contemplative garden overlooking the crash site. It will not only memorialize the name of the 230 lives taken that night, telling the story of their fate and the historic efforts made to return them to threir loved ones, but will express the debt of gratitude felt by the surviving families, which can never be repaid. Our intentions are to engrave the names off all the individuals and orginazations who came to our aid, preserving them forever in a stone walkway leading to the memorial. The developement of this project is well underway with Suffolk County dedicating the land and providing $25,000 in funding for architectural planning. Governor Pataki has also included $100,000 in his executive budget. This is where we need your help. To allow us to move aheadwe are encourageing community members and orginazations to help us commemorate all the individuals involved in the recovery effort and to assist us in building the memorial by buying an inscribed granite brick or you can help us by simply making a donation in any amount. Remember, all contributions are tax deductable. Please use the following donation form; print as many as you may need, or pass one along to a friend. Your support is greatly needed.
