Our Mission and Vision
Who We Are
Hearts & Ears is a nonprofit organization for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people with mental health issues and concerns. We warmly welcome all sexual and gender minorities with mental health issues, as people who are dually stigmatized with being LGBT and having a mental health issue can have a difficult time finding full acceptance. Friends, family, and community members are encouraged to attend.
Mission
Our mission is to advance the empowerment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals who utilize mental health services through support, advocacy, raising awareness, and educational opportunities.
Hearts and Ears hosts weekly peer discussion groups. We believe that recovery comes through helping others and opening ourselves to them. In a culture where there is so much stigma towards GLBT's with mental health concerns, it is hard not to internalize some of society's negative messages. Listening compassionately to others helps us develop compassion toward ourselves.
Vision
If you are living with depression, anxiety, isolation, fear, or other mental health issues please join our community. Our vision is to provide support and advocacy to GLBT individuals with mental health issues from all walks of life; young adults, older adults, seniors, signifciant others, couples, and families and friends. We also provide emotional support to GLBT individuals with mental health issues who may be homeless, or who are HIV+/AIDS defined.
All of us, from time to time, need support and encouragement through times of emotional distress. Our Peer Support services and caring staff provide a place for you to recover. We also need a safe place to share our concerns and difficulties with others who have experiences similar problems.
Please join us.
