Perfect Dark- Review and Info

Out with the Old In with the New

Perfect Dark, Rare's follow-up to it's brilliant first person shooter, Goldeneye, is absolutely amazing. It's graphics are fine-tuned, multiplayer goes above and beyond once again, and; you have the ability to play solo missions with or against a friend. There is also a firing-range, a hologram room, a device room where you can take a jet bike for a test spin. Of course what would a game like this be without good weapons and that's why Rare has included over 40 weapons and devices, plus every weapon has a secondary function! Enemies now say things like "My Gun!" if they're defenseless, and you have interesting cinema scenes that include audio too. These great benefits do come at a price though. You need to have an N64 Expansion Pak to be able to do anything but multiplayer. The solo missions, the heart of the game, aren't even available without the Expansion Pak. For only $29.99, the Expansion Pak is a pretty good deal. Plus you'll be able to use it with alot of other games too. The actual game costs about $59.99, but to recieve a 9.6 from Nintendo Power and a 9.8 from IGN reviews, speaks for itself.

Multiplayer

Goldeneye was made a huge sucess to a great deal because of it's multiplayer mode. Perfect Dark has taken Goldeneye's basic multiplayer mode and greatly improved it. There are more expansive arenas, plus, you have some returning classics such as Complex, Temple, and Felicity (Facility). Besides the normal combat mode, you have King of the Hill, Capture the Briefcase, Pop a Cap, and many more scenarios to increase the amount of fun and variety you can get out of the multiplayer mode.
This is all great right, but there's still more! There are 30 challenges of which you have to play computer controlled simulations that all have different intelligence levels and strengths. When you beat one challenge, another opens up. New weapons and characters open up too. You have four to start out with so there will always be another challenge to try if one is giving you trouble. You can also customize your own character by retrofitting one characters' head on another characters' body. You can also save and name your character of which the computer keeps track of all of it's statistics from distance walked to kills and deaths. The options available for customizing your own scenarios and saving them are great too.

Weaponry

The weapons available are incredible. Every gun has a secondary function, such as a powerful assault rifle and a grenade launcher in one. There's also unordinary weapons like the tranquilizer gun that makes your vision blurry and has a lethal injection as it's secondary function. You can disarm your opponents too. The reloading on weapons is much cooler too; for starters you actually see Joanna, the main character, take the clip out and put a new one in unlike in Goldeneye where the gun just dissapeared for a minute. Also, if you earn a gold medal for every weapon in the firing-range, you'll eventually open up 8 classic Goldeneye guns. None of them have secondary functions though.
Perfect Dark is an excellent game, and I will list sites below where you can purchase Perfect Dark and find more detailed info on it online, because there is alot left to cover.
