home brew timer
JoeD's Timer for HomeBrew Cameras
Micro Chip Timer for Home Brew Cameras

The timer I build comes complete with everything except the battery holder.  Following is the list of parts I use to build the timer.

AA Battery holder #270-409 (this holds 4 AA batteries, Radio Shack doesn't sell holders for 3 batteries, so pull the 4th battery out and solder a wire from positive to negative this will complete the circuit and give you 4.5 volts.  Also the battery holder has a built in on/off switch.)

Green sub-miniature LED #276-069B
5 volt reed relay
1 1K resistor
N.O. Monetary push button switch.
Dual general purpose PC board.  #276-148A
8-pin low profile socket #276-1995A

We sell the chips for 10.00 each or I will build a timer for you for 30.00 without refresh pulse / 35.00 with refresh pulse.
Shipping charge is 3.00 per order.

The timer will include switches, LED, connectors for plugging your camera into the timer.  So all you will have to do is hook up 2 wires  (3 wires if using refresh) to your 5 volt reed relay on the PIR sensor, connect 2 wires to your battery pack, and use the connection to connect either 2 or 3 wires to your camera.

Here are the instructions:

Pressing the event counter switch will trigger the LED to blink.
Long blink = 10
Short blink = 1
So if you have 24 pictures, you will get 2 long blinks followed by 4 short blinks.  If you have 2 pictures you will get 2 short blinks.

By pressing and holding the timer switch you can change the timing modes.
One blink = 15seconds        Six blinks = 10 minutes
two blinks = 30 seconds      Seven blinks = 20 minutes
three blinks = 1 minute        Eight blinks = 30minutes
four blinks = 3 minutes        Nine blinks = 60 minutes
five blinks = 5 minutes

After the timer mode has been set, you can make it a double mode.  By holding down the event counter button for 3 seconds,  the LED will blink twice and the timer is now in a double mode for the time selected. The double mode will take one picture and 5 seconds later take another picture, then will wait until the time selected before taking another set of pictures.

Once the camera take a picture the time and single/double mode are locked in.  You must cut power to the timer to reset.  This will clear the event timer also.

One thing to remember, every time you press the button to change modes, there is a one-minute delay.  So by pressing either button on the outside of the box, you will have one minute to get into the camera.
