 Friction Testing of Various Lubricants

Friction directly impacts the efficiency of mechanical systems. Friction produces heat, which can easily be seen with thermal imaging, whereby problem components can be identified and corrected. The following thermograms are part of the testing procedures that NanoLube, Inc. has undertaken to identify poor quality lubrication in common, everyday use.

HyperDiamond TM Nano-Lubrication will always be positioned on the left hand side of all Thermal Images. Each Thermogram desplays the temperature range to the far right, and colors will fall within specified temperature zones. The exact configuration of the test rig is confidential, pending patent application on this high speed bearing testing system. All test parameters are equal for both stations.

Target
Show that HyperDiamond TM can be used as a Grease Replacement, which will increase system efficiency and power, as friction, wear and down time costs are reduced.

Applications
Transportation, Rail, Trucking, Automotive, Water/Land Sports, Industrial, Crane Rails, Drive Chains, Weapons, Aerospace, etc.

15 seconds into test
A petroleum lubricant is used to suspend Non-Detonation Nanodiamond TM, and the test bearings on the right have been lubricacted with this pure lubricant. The oiled bearings rotate much faster than the greased bearings - however the temperature quickly rose, indicating as expected a great deal of metal on metal contact.
No new comparison testing against Sulfur compounds will be performed due to the inevitable EPA ban on sulfur lubricants, and general reduction in sulfur use.
10 seconds into test
Factory supplied bearings (right) with original grease are used in this test, which proves to generate extreme friction and heavy system losses, compared to bearings treated with HyperDiamond TM (left). The heavy drag produced by grease did more than heat up the bearings, the motor and drive assembly also showed excessive heating compared to the HyperDiamond TM assembly which was cooler.
