Claude Monet, Other Interesting Info
Claude Monet (1840 -1920)
OTHER INTERESTING INFO
We still didn't cover some very interesting facts from Claude Monet's life. One of these facts is that Monet, as a big admirer of nature, always wanted to have beautiful gardens where he lived, so he could paint his own gardens and his family members in there. During those not very succesful years, when he was married to Camille, they were living in Argenteuil near Paris. They were too poor to afford a garden, but Argenteuil was green and beautiful itself.
When they became wealthier they moved to the bigger house in Vetheuil, where they had a beautiful garden. Towards the end of his life, during marriage with Alice, the Monets settled in Giverny, where they had a large and the prettiest garden ever. Claude made a pond with Japanese bridge over it, and he planted water lilies in the pond. For the last 12 years of his life he kept painting his water lilies, and some of this paintings were over 40 feet wide.
The other interesting fact is that when Monet got older he made several trips through Europe. He visited Spain, Venice in Italy, and London, Britain. During all of his trips he kept on painting.
Claude was very interested in water reflecting light. He made a small studio boat for himself, and this way he could paint scenes with water while floating in his studio at the same time.
Several years before Monet's death a very sad thing happened to him: his vision was failing. By the year 1923 he was not able to see almost at all. It was very difficult and painful for him, because in his work he always depended on his vision. He decided to have an operation from the cataract in one eye, and his vision improved.
Three years later, in 1926, Claude Monet died from lung cancer. He did live a very long and interesting life, and created thousands of excellent art works.
