The Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood
Who are the Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood
Identity
The Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood are
a cloistered contemplative religious order
established in 1861 by the Foundress, Mother
Catherine Aurelia. Mother Catherine's love for
Jesus intensified and her trust became unshakable
the more she meditated on the Blood of Jesus shed
for us. As Mother grew in greater awareness of the
immensity of Jesus' love for us, manifested by the
outpouring of his Precious Blood, she was moved
by a special charism to spread devotion to the
Precious Blood.
Jesus thirst for souls to love seems to have
increased proportionately the more His Precious
Blood poured forth from His pierced side. Until.
finally, Jesus uttered from the very core of his being
that mysterious, mystical 'Sitio' summing up His
insatiable thirst for souls.
For Mother Catherine Aurelia the 'Sitio, of
Jesus enraptured her and summed up the goal of her
life. Like the dying Christ, she wanted to die with a
'Sitio' on her lips directed in love to God the Father,
Son and Spirit, thereby, expressing her thirst to love
God and bring others to love Him.
Today in Precious Blood Monasteries
throughout the country, Mother Catherine's spiritual
daughters moved by the same charism strive to live
out in love their own limited 'Sitio' in response to
the infinite, loving 'Sitio' of Jesus. The Sisters
Adorers of the Precious Blood are, then, a
Community called to a life of Contemplative Prayer
and Reparation lived in a Spirit Of JOY and Love in
response to the great love which Jesus showed to all
mankind in the shedding of His Precious Blood.
BLESSED BE HIS MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD
The Sacred Heart is the symbol of God's love
for us. The Precious Blood, the symbol of the
PRICE He would pay to show us that love. "Greater
love than this no man has, that a man lay down his
life for his friends." (Jn. 15,13). At the Last Supper
Jesus said; "This is My Blood which will be shed
for you" (Mk. 14,22).
Our Life
Ours is a Ministry of Prayer exercised within a
contemplative community life. The spacious garden
and the peace and silence of the cloister setting is a
great blessing for our prayer life. At the daily
Eucharist and Liturgy of the Hours we pray for the
Universal Church and in a special way for the local
Church in which we live, for the strengthening of
the faith of its people, the holiness of its priests and
the cares and concerns of the local Bishop.
Besides the community exercises, each sister
in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament has special
hours of adoration and reparation in which she
prays for the intentions of all who share with us
their needs for prayers. The time of prayer is
balanced with a variety of other activities.
Each religious is encouraged to imitate and
develop a sincere love and devotion to she who first
contemplated His words in her heart, namely, Mary
Immaculate, the Mother of God and Mother of the
Church. The consecrated religious strives to live her
life each day as a gift giving to God.
. . . CONTEMPLATIVE prayer sustains the
Church in her struggle to bring mankind to a proper
understanding of human dignity and spiritual
values. In the name of the Church I thank you. I ask
you to pray all the more, for the Pilgrim People, of
God and for the world.
Pope John Paul II, November 1982
