What people are saying...

Steve Oberbeck's workshop "Memoir: Power of the Personal Story" was loaded with
practical information to help writers recall past memories, how to involve the senses
in writing memoir and allow details to come forth.  His presentation is
professional, challenging and conducted in a warm, friendly manner. The advice he
offered will serve me well in the future as I continue writing my memoirs. I highly
recommend his workshops.
--Di Saggau, Fort Myers, FL

Thank you again for your  outstanding memoir workshops.  Not only were you able to
bring out stories from everyone's past, but you did it with such enthusiasm and
humor, that we all worked a lot harder and produced much more material than we
thought possible. You got me so involved in my past that I started to do some work
on my family history, and discovered so much information that I'm going to be busy
for a long time. I look forward to being with your group again this next season.
--Ed Keevins, Lincolnshire, IL

Steve Oberbeck's Memoir Writing Workshop was excellent. His workshop exercises and
ideas enhanced my writing and helped unlock many forgotton memories by using my five
senses. Steve's emphasis on painting verbal pictures has already improved my story
telling skills. I look forward to attending another of Steve's workshops in the near
future.  --Jeri Magg, Sanibel, FL (President, Gulf Coast Writers Association)

Writing my memoirs last winter in workshops given by Steve Oberbeck brought another
dimension to my life.  Steve is an inspirational instructor.  With his process, I
was able to look back into my past and uncover buried emotions both joyful and
painful.  I plan to continue to take workshops with him.  -- Myra St. John,
Bethlehem PA

I attended two six-week work shops taught by Steve Oberbeck.  I was very impressed
by the content of the courses, but also by Steve's teaching style, a unique
combination of toughness and tenderness that is very appropriate for mature,
would-be writers.  I am looking forward to giving him a third shot at me in the
fall.  --Stona J. Fitch, Cincinnati OH

I recently attended a memoir workshop presented by Steve Oberbeck. I was prepared
for the usual advice about writing a memoir being just like telling a story to your
best friend, but was pleasantly surprised. Steve's emphasis on "standing in the
moment" was a refreshing doorway to memories. His "what does the camera see"
approach to point of view was also enlightening.  Steve reminded us how point of
view and voice must be consistent to give the memoir the ring of truth and accuracy.
