Left: Via Nazionale bustles with early morning activity as film crews prepare to shoot scenes at a real estate office. Other scenes were set simutaneously so as to take advantage of daytime lighting conditions. Rain postponed filming several times during the production period. American and Italian production personnel were aided by local crews and talent.

Right: Meanwhile, in Piazza della Republicca, props for an outdoor caffe scene replace the usual tables and seats provided by Bar Signorelli. Francis and Ed Mayes and their daughter were in town during the day to observe the filming. Locals, tourists and American students watching the activity occupied the steps of the Commune.

Left & Above right: In October Piazza della Republicca was transformed into a Tuscan winter wonderland. Crews created an effect seldom seen in Cortona...snow!

Right: A view of Piazza della Republicca during the early morning filming of an outdoor market scene. The market stalls are no longer typical of the country markets but bear a closer resemblance to the market stalls in Florence. Filming was interupted several times by an outspoken goose used as decor in one of the stalls!

Left: During filming of the market scenes it was not easy to distinguish among the professional actors, film crew, local talent, tourists, film fans, merchants and students. Filming was stopped for a lunch break just as 300 young school students walked through the piazza to their buses!
