What Exactly Does A DMT DO?

What exactly does a DMT do?

Through dance and physically expressive movement, dance therapists create a relationship that encourages expression of emotion, interpersonal interaction, and reintegration of the self. Verbal expression is encouraged as it arises during the direct bodily-felt experience of the client. Individuals of all ages who have social, emotional, cognitive and/or physical problems can benefit from the treatment using this modality. DMT offers an environment where people are encouraged to find full physical and emotional expression. People meet with a DMT either by themselves in a session, as a couple (with someone they are in relationship with and would like to improve that relationship), or in a group setting. The DMT uses many different approaches. As an accredited dance therapist, Carolee works with three important ideas in her private practice. She also teaches courses and leads workshops on body/mind integration. At the Museum Science Center she regularly leads a course called "Movement and Thinking Patterns." This is about exploring the mind/body link through four basic patterns of muscle coordination. Carolee also serves as a consultant for businesses, teaching Stress Management , Empowering Your Body to Empower Yourself , Better Your Understanding of our Fellow Workers , etc. Carolee has worked at the Monroe County Office for the Aging for 12 years, and is particularly adept at encouraging people to continue to keep active, even through such limitations as high blood pressure, arthritis, stroke, etc. She leads a weekly group "Empower your Body/Self" with senior citizens at Oasis, the senior citizen center at Midtown Plaza. In addition, she has extensive background in working with people to create dance to be incorporated into spiritual settings.
